Dancing With The Stars pro dancers come and go as the seasons continue. Many spend years on the show and eventually retire. Sometimes the show doesn’t ask a pro to return for one reason or another. No matter the reason, each DWTS cast looks different from the season before.

As Season 32 continues, one pro dancer confirmed their time in the ballroom is over. What exactly pushed them to make this decision?

DWTS has made several changes over the years

Over time, Dancing With The Stars made many changes to the series. However, many of those changes proved to be wildly unpopular with audience members. Notably, the choice to replace Tom Bergeron with Tyra Banks really enraged viewers.

Even so, many cast and crew members retained their love for the series. But for one pro, their time in the ballroom is officially over now.

During his time on the show, Maks Chmerkovskiy developed a bit of a “bad boy” reputation. He even butted heads with the judges on more than one occasion. But at the end of the day, he still has a lot of love for DWTS.

“This is a great show, great group of people. You know, look. If there’s a Mount Rushmore of that thing, Dancing With The Stars, I’m probably a couple of spots on it. But I feel like we’ve written a book on how to do Dancing With The Stars back in the day. And, you know, I’m that fan. I’m a fan of the original version. The way it was. The way everybody fell in love with the show,” the Ukrainian dancer told Heavy.

Maks went on to say that he’s still part of the show through his family. His wife Peta Murgatroyd is still a pro dancer, alongside his younger brother Val Chmerkovskiy. Val’s wife Jenna Johnson is also a pro with DWTS. Maks claims that he and his sons watch the show and cheer on their family members.

Maks Chmerkovskiy wants the show to succeed without him

At this point in time, Maks Chmerkovskiy says that he has no plans to physically participate and that the show has gone on without him. And as Heavy reports, Maks is just fine with that.

“I just want that. I want the show to remain. I want it to go on. Continue, move on, all of that. I just don’t want it to evolve into something that it’s not,” the professional dancer continued. “And I think over the last some seasons, there were these types of attempts. What I love now is that it’s coming back to the old days of original content. The way it was meant to be, where it’s about celebrities and their partners having this journey and this experience and so forth.”

He added that although he’s moved on from the show, he enjoys seeing it come full circle. Maks loves seeing the show return to the format of the older seasons. For now, he’s excited to explore a new era of his life.
