Why did DWTS make a huge change to the extremely coveted Mirrorball trophy come Season 32? It has been a staple of the show since its inception. This is the goal of celebrities and professionals, what they are hoping to bring home to their families, friends, and colleagues. Yet, it has suddenly been revamped but what is the purpose? Read on for more details.

Why Did DWTS Make HUGE Change To Mirrorball?

The Mirrorball trophy has been like another judge of DWTS and has been the ultimate goal for the competitors. However, the dancing competition has seen a big evolution since it began. Gone are Tom Bergeron and his various co-hosts. Tyra Banks stepped in and Alfonso Ribeiro joined her. She was not a fan favorite and, as of Season 32, she exited with former pro, Julianne Hough replacing her. Ribeiro is sticking around which is great but the judge’s table is sadly missing a legend. At the end of last season, iconic, hard but very witty, and beloved Len Goodman announced he was leaving.

Just a few months later, he passed away. Now, the remaining judges are Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli so it is essentially a new show. According to ET, Len will forever be cemented on the show, and not just because he was a legend. They have taken extra steps to ensure he is forever present. Per DWTS executive producer Conrad Green has this to say: “The Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy will now be lifted on Dancing With the Stars like the Vince Lombardi trophy is lifted at the Super Bowl.”

He went on to say: “We wanted to make Len a permanent part of this show, to always remind people the importance he’s had to Dancing With the Stars and how much he meant to all of us.” So, it will still be an amazing trophy but with sentimental meaning to it. This is a beautiful way to honor Len and what he meant to everyone on the show. Now, the cast will be fighting even harder to win.

A New Season, New Faces

Obviously, some familiar faces are not returning to DWTS like Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson. Yet, the cast is shaping up to be fun with the likes of Ariana Madix, Barry Williams, Mira Sorvino, and more. They will be on an exciting, whirlwind adventure like never before. Plus, the show will be airing on Tuesday nights rather than Mondays and back on ABC but also streaming on Disney+ at the same time. Get ready because it will be a 10 from Len just in a different way.

What do you think of the Mirrorball change? Is it appropriate given the circumstances? Let us know in the comments and watch the season premiere September 26th.
