‘Yellowstone’ Seasons 6 & 7 Planned Until Kevin Costner’s Threat
Yellowstone fans are experiencing more drama from their favorite modern western. It was just revealed that even after they canceled the top cable series on television, Paramount was still negotiating with Kevin Costner for more seasons. Turns out, a few months ago, they were working on him returning for the rest of Season 5B, as well as Seasons 6 and 7.
However, there was recent news that Costner’s demand to veto some of Taylor Sheridan’s script decisions caused them to walk away from negotiations.
However, the new report also reveals that Paramount is totally done with Kevin Costner after his public threat. What did the Field Of Dreams star threaten to do?
Here is the latest news on the future of the number-one show on cable television.
Paramount And Kevin Costner Were Negotiating More Yellowstone Seasons
Just when Yellowstone fans got used to the idea that the Paramount series is ending with Season 5, some new information has surfaced that gives fans more bad news. The network had been in negotiations with Kevin Costner for Seasons 6 and 7 two months after officially canceling the OG.
However, thanks to Kevin Costner’s very messy Hollywood divorce, the network never plans to negotiate again.
This may be confusing as on May 5, Deadline reported that Paramount officially canceled Yellowstone after the completion of Season 5. However, canceled must not mean what viewers think it means because two months later, there were negotiations about Kevin returning for more seasons of the hit modern western.
According to Puck News, in early July, Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner had a phone conversation. Describing Costner as “speaking in a friendly tone to Sheridan,” he asked for a series of demands. Those demands included more pay, fewer hours, and some say in the script. He wanted “the right to review, approve, and potentially veto every Sheridan script.”
Showrunner Taylor Sheridan was not about to let the last bit happen, despite a “moral death” provision in Costner’s contract. He has the right to veto anything he deems inappropriate regarding John Dutton’s death.
But, despite this standstill, the Paramount Media Networks CEO Chris McCarthy reportedly still “hoped” to “re-engage” with Costner’s team about a return. That is, until Kevin Costner’s most recent date in divorce court.
Paramount Is Mad At Kevin Costner Due To Legal Threat
On September 1, in Santa Barbara, he was in court about child support payments. He was asked about his status on Yellowstone in terms of future payments. Costner revealed that they talked about future seasons and that he was now owed money and would “probably have to go to court about it.” In other words, he plans to sue Paramount.
Now, the reports are that Paramount is walking away. Therefore, they will end the series with Season 5.
Why Is Paramount Jerking Yellowstone Fans Around?
Is Yellowstone officially canceled? It doesn’t sound like Paramount knows. However, according to Kevin Costner’s recent court date, he thinks he is done with the series.
Whatever the case, loyal fans have been jerked around. Moreover, they are not getting any new episodes in 2023. There is an actors and writers strike happening now. Many may now have a better idea of why there is a strike. There seems to be a lot of Paramount chaos.
Most of all, many fans are confused about what is airing on CBS starting September 17. They do not understand that this is not new episodes, but the beginning of the series. But, what seems clear is that Yellowstone has not officially gone to the train station.
There is still a chance there will be amends and perhaps news in the coming months.
