As fans of Sister Wives know, Dayton Brown was originally born as David Preston Jessop. He was named after his father, Robyn Brown’s ex-husband. When Robyn Brown came into the family, Kody Brown legally divorced his first wife on paper. This allowed him to get legally married to Robyn. This, in turn, opened things up for him to adopt Robyn’s children from her first marriage and get them on his insurance.
When Kody Brown legally adopted Robyn’s son, his name was legally changed to David Dayton Brown. The change was made because everyone called him Dayton, not David. On Reddit, one fan admitted they were confused hearing people refer to Dayton as David recently.
I remember the adoption and in that episode they said his name was David Payton and that they were changing to Dayton because that’s what they called him. At the adoption his name was changed. I’ve heard people calling him David again. Did he change it back?

It was other members of the family who called him Dayton. Moreover, as a young adult, fans are seeing more and more references to him as David, not Dayton.
Likewise, fans also ask whether changing his name was something he wanted. One fan chimed in to note that “allegedly” changing his name was something he wanted. Fans, however, stopped believing everything Kody Brown and his wives/ex-wives told them a long time ago.
