Former TLC star Jill Duggar Dillard is sharing her pitiful pay for her 10 years of filming. She’s spoken about this for years, but now, she’s finally coming clean about the amount she actually received. Keep reading for all of the details.
The Duggar family spent many years on TLC. 19 Kids & Counting was previously known as 17 Kids & Counting and 18 Kids & Counting. The title changed as the family grew. It aired from September 2008 to May 2015. Then, after one of Josh Duggar’s scandals, TLC pulled the plug on the series. Later in 2015, a spin-off called Counting On premiered.
Jill Duggar Dillard seeks legal help to recover money.
Unfortunately, Jill claims she was not paid fairly for her time on TLC. She previously revealed that she sought legal guidance in hopes of recovering some of the money she should have earned while on TLC. Even with legal help, she didn’t receive much compensation. As she’s opened up about this over the years, she hasn’t shared actual numbers with fans.
This week, Jill Duggar Dillard has gotten candid on many topics, from her book, Counting the Cost, to her feelings about her brother, Josh. In her memoir, which hits shelves on September 12, she discusses her family’s TLC shows and drops many bombshells on readers.
How much was she paid for 10 years of filming?
In an exclusive interview with People, the Duggar daughter also chatted about the pitiful pay she earned on 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On. Despite being a prominent part of the shows, her father, Jim Bob Duggar, didn’t pay her until she demanded the money. This is because he managed all of the negotiations, contracts, and other financial details. So, it was up to him to pay each of his 19 kids.
In her People interview, Jill Duggar Dillard shared that she sometimes spent 20 hours per week filming. And sadly, she didn’t make a penny for it. Eventually, Jim Bob agreed to pay each of his adult children $80,000.
She explained, “I was so conditioned to this belief that we were benefitting from it, from going on this trip or that trip or whatever. It was like, well we can buy frozen pizzas instead of beans and rice now because [TLC] is covering these things. It was literally so ingrained in me to be grateful.”
Upon taking a closer look at the contracts, Jill and Derick didn’t take the $80,000 from Jim Bob and pursued legal guidance instead. They also realized he signed a contract without Jill’s consent. She was expected to film for five years and had no idea. Jill’s father ended up writing them a check for $175,000. However, Jill estimates the family earned $8 million over nearly 10 years.
