Jill Duggar Talks Legal Battle For ‘Counting On’ Money
Since Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard left Counting On, Derick has been open about the lack of compensation he and Jill received. Derick claimed that Jim Bob Duggar kept the money that the kids were supposed to make from being on the show. He says that he and Jill didn’t receive any of the money they deserved from being on the show.
He also pointed out the other issues they had with the show. For one, any announcements, such as pregnancies and births, are for the network to announce. So, over time, Jill and Derick were fed up. They claim they left the show because of the compensation issue. It’s unclear what the true story is, but Derick also made transphobic comments about fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings. It’s possible that the network cut ties with him. Fans assume this is the reason behind Jill’s decision to leave the network too.
Over on their YouTube channel, Jill and Derick have been sharing Q&A videos with their fans. They allow their social media followers to ask questions, and then they answer the questions in a video. So far, they have released three of these videos. In the videos, Jill and Derick are pretty honest with Duggar fans. They’ve even discussed birth control and their plans for their future babies. So, it’s no surprise that they decided to address the Counting On payment situation.
Jill Duggar talks about hiring an attorney
In the video, the couple talks about their lack of financial compensation from being on Counting On. Jill explains, “Up until the time we left the show we hadn’t been paid for anything. There were perks – if you were traveling they may cover the expenses – and we were grateful, but we weren’t paid until we were pressing and we got an attorney involved.”
Then, Derick adds, “Once we got the attorney involved, we were able to recover a portion of what Jill should have been paid.”
He also goes on to explain that they aren’t really talking to the Duggar siblings about the payment situation. He says, “We were strongly discouraged from talking to other family members about payment or lack thereof.”
For a while, the couple has been talking about hiring a lawyer to handle the situation. Some think this is part of the reason that Derick is currently in law school. But, it sounds like Jill and Derick already have this under control.
