‘DWTS’ Fans Surprised By One Of Derek Hough’s Groomsmen
One of Derek Hough‘s bridal party members came as quite a surprise to some fans!
Dancing With The Stars viewers were surprised and excited to learn that DWTS judge married over the weekend. He and his long-time girlfriend Hayley Erbert had been hyping fans up about the wedding for months.
So far, there haven’t been many photos of the special day. But fans did notice that the bridal party included one very interesting figure. Who was it?
Derek Hough invited one surprising person to be a groomsman
It came as no surprise to DWTS fans that some of the other cast members would be involved in Derek Hough’s wedding. After all, he was a pro on the show for many years and formed deep bonds with other dancers.
Reigning champion Mark Ballas served as Derek’s best man while Britt Stewart was a bridesmaid. Julianne Hough, Derek’s younger sister and the newest DWTS hostess, was also a bridesmaid.
But one groomsman had a few fans raising eyebrows.
Julianne’s ex-husband, Brooks Laich, was also one of Derek’s groomsmen. The hockey player and Julianne divorced back in 2020. However, it seems like he kept his relationship with Derek Hough alive and well.
According to Us Weekly, the men are still on great terms, even though Brooks and Julianne’s marriage didn’t work out.
An insider allegedly told the publication that Derek “saw that they were figuring out themselves as individuals and that they weren’t a match as a couple, but that doesn’t take away their love for Brooks as a person.”
In October 2020, the Dancing With The Stars judge told Us Weekly that he just wanted everyone involved to be happy.
“I think that’s what we all want, right? We just want all of our family, we want all of our friends and everybody to be happy. And then if we can help that, then we’re happy to do it.”
The newlyweds had an intimate ceremony surrounded by nature
Although many of the wedding details still aren’t publicly available, it seems that the special day happened without any issues. Both Derek and Hayley sat down with PEOPLE to talk about their ceremony in Northern California with just over 100 guests.
“When we were thinking about location we asked ourselves, ‘What’s important to us?'” the Utah dancer explained. “Nature was the first thing. We want to be around trees and plants and Northern California kind of spoke out to us. We just want people to experience this place that we love, this nature, but also, it just feels incredibly romantic.”
