Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets surpasses Amazon’s expectations.

Variety exclusively reported that the Duggar docuseries “had the biggest debut of any documentary series ever produced by Amazon Studios.” In its first nine days, the series had more viewership than previous Amazon Studios docuseries.

The news outlet also reported that “the series has been responsible for the acquisition of more new Prime Video customers than any other Amazon docuseries.”

Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon Studios, said, “I’d love to tell you that we knew for sure it was going to do exactly what it’s done, but it’s been multiples higher than what we anticipated.”

What could this mean for the series?

At this point, it’s purely speculation and nothing is confirmed. But this could be a sign that the series will return for a second season. In a Reddit “ask me anything” session, the executive producer, Cori Shepherd Stern, said she is interested in a second season. She also teased that it would likely go in-depth on the Bates family (Bringing Up Bates).

Ultimately, fans will have to wait and see what happens with the series moving forward. But the response so far has been very positive, and it would make sense for Amazon to order another season or two.
