Ryan Seacrest was almost an American Idol judge. This might shock some fans who can only see him in the hosting position. Ryan shared his shocking confession during his interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Mini American Idol reunion

It was a mini American Idol reunion. Ryan Seacrest appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Friday, May 5. He talked about his time in the singing competition. Ryan has been on the show since the beginning. He used to host the show alongside Brian Dunkleman before he ended up with the sole position.

Kelly brought on Ryan to the show. She asked him to say hi to Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, who sat in the audience. Ryan exclaimed how great it was to see the former contestant again. Kelly wanted to know more about Ryan’s time on the show. She admitted that she found out about something that she didn’t know about him and maybe the fans didn’t either.

“I just found out something new that I did not know,” Kelly shared. “I didn’t know that, originally, they may be almost had you as a judge.”

“Yeah,” Ryan Seacrest admitted. “Originally when the producers, Nigel and Ken, were setting up the show, they had heard me on the radio, here, in Los Angeles. And they thought that I might fit the panel with whoever else was already on.”

The producers thought Ryan would be the perfect judge because of his voice. He would’ve sat on the panel alongside Simon Cowell. Ryan doesn’t know who the third judge was going to be. At the time, he considered it because he loved the idea of judging a competition.

“And I thought, ‘Wait, a minute. I would love to audition to be the host,'” Ryan Seacrest explained. “And so I auditioned eventually to host. And I got the job.”

Ryan Seacrest loves his job

Despite what the AI fans might say, Ryan Seacrest admitted that he loves his job. Kelly wonders what he would be like as a judge. Ryan feels his personality is better suited for hosting. It’s become cemented in his DNA.

“The problem is, I’m like auto-host mode all the time, so I don’t know that I’d just be able to sit behind the desk and just give feedback,” Ryan Seacrest said. “I’d want to do that, then toss to commercial, ‘Welcome back, how are you?’ You know all the things. And that would be too much.”

Kelly wanted to know if he was like this with his family or girlfriend. Ryan used his hosting voice to talk about a meal and then added, “We’ll be right back after we use the bathroom.” Kelly laughed before they carried on to the next topic.
