‘American Idol’ Guest Hosts To Replace Katy Perry & Lionel Richie

An upcoming episode of American Idol will be without two of its judges. The good news is that two very big names in entertainment will sit in to replace them for the episode. Here is why Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will miss an upcoming episode and who will take their place.

Katy Perry & Lionel Richie to miss upcoming American Idol episode

It is rare for the judges to miss episodes of American Idol, as the schedule is lined up far in advance and only illness usually causes a disruption in the team. However, there are often things that pop up that are more important than a reality TV show’s episode. That will happen on May 7.

Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will travel to the United Kingdom this weekend to both perform at King Charles III’s coronation. This will be a massive event that will see the first new King of England coronated in over 70 years. King George VI died in 1952 and Queen Elizabeth served as the Queen of England since that time. Queen Elizabeth died last September, and the coronation this weekend will reflect the monarch’s new role and look toward the future.

Lionel Richie served as the first global ambassador of the Prince’s Trust when King Charles III founded the charity. Katy Perry was a surprise addition, but she also served as an ambassador for King Charles III for the British Asian Trust. Others performing include three members of Take That, Italian opera star Andrea Bocelli and Welsh singer Sir Bryn Terfel, as well as Bette Midler.

Who will replace Perry & Richie on American Idol?

American Idol has two big names lined up to sit in for Katy Perry and Lionel Richie on the Sunday night episode. Replacing the two missing judges are Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran.

Alanis Morissette is one of the biggest names in music history. Her breakout album, Jagged Little Pill, was the best-selling international album in history by a female artist when it came out. Morissette sold over 16 million copies in the United States alone and 33 million copies worldwide. While she never matched that success with her following albums, she remains a beloved and popular musical star.

As for Ed Sheeran, he is no stranger to reality musical competition shows. In Season 21 of The Voice, Sheeran appeared as a mentor. Now, while not in the same role, he has a chance to listen to this year’s Top 7 and offer up some advice to the remaining singers.

Sheeran is also involved in a lawsuit by the Marvin Gaye estate that accuses him of stealing rifts from “Let’s Get It On” for his 2014 song, “Thinking Out Loud.” Sheeran said under oath that if he loses this case, he will quit the music industry completely.
