Will The ‘Deadpool’ Manga Get An Anime Series?

The last few years have been full of new hit anime adaptations of some of the biggest manga in the world. It has anime and manga fans alike full of excitement to see what’s coming next. Recently, the stats on the highest-selling manga in the US from 2022 hit the internet. It may give fans a look at which manga may be next in line for an anime adaptation. One of them, in particular, has a huge following as a blend of Eastern and Western media. Could Deadpool become the first big Marvel anime?
Deadpool Samurai
Deadpool Samurai is the name of the manga that gave Japanese writer Sanshiro Kasama a shot at writing the iconic mercenary. It came out in Japan a few years back and made its English-translation debut in 2022. It quickly became a hit and is one of the best-selling manga of last year. ComicHub’s list of the top 20 highest-selling manga graphic novels for 2022 put Deadpool Samurai Volume 1 at #14. Fairly impressive, especially considering manga outsold American comics in the US, meaning the Japanese Deadpool comic sold more than Deadpool comics from this continent.
So will an anime adaptation be coming out of this success? Hopefully so. As of this moment, there is no announcement for any kind of anime plan in the future. The manga just made its way to the West last year so it’s possible that something is in the works. But it would likely still be in early development. There are only two volumes of the manga, so unless more volumes come out in the future it would likely only be a one-season anime. Or maybe even a movie rather than a full show.
Marvel In Manga
The success of Deadpool Samurai is opening up Marvel to the world of manga. At 2022’s New York Comic Con, fans got an announcement that even more is in the pipeline to hit shelves in the future. This includes manga Wolverine and Spider-Man, two of the biggest superheroes in the Marvel canon. If these Marvel manga series continue to be successful, readers may see even more expansion into this space in the future. It’s possible there could even be an anime version of the MCU.
There is technically currently an Avengers anime called Marvel Future Avengers on Disney+. It doesn’t have particularly good reviews or a strong following, though. Maybe these new upcoming manga titles could be a chance for a hard restart.
