The Boys Season 4 is still currently in production. That means the premiere date is still likely a ways off, and there still isn’t much information out there. But a new set photo showing off one of the stars of the superhero series gives a bloody sneak peek. And it may hint that Amazon is ready to start ramping up toward some bigger announcements about the upcoming season. Let’s talk about the new photo from the set of The Boys Season 4.
Homelander In Red
The photos in question show off Antony Starr, AKA Homelander, donning exactly the kind of makeup fans expect from The Boys. That is, to say, about a bucket of fake blood covering his entire head. The official Twitter account for The Boys put out one photo with the caption “Just another day at Vought Tower”. Antony himself showed off some more photos on his Instagram.
This is far from the first time Starr has found himself wearing all red while working on this show. At this point, it’s happened more times than is worth counting. Antony seems to note this himself with the caption “Question: does history repeat itself?”
Does this mean anything specific about the plot of Season 4? Well, yes, but not anything that fans weren’t already expecting from a show that has no shortage of viscera. Between this, and another recent preview of the S4 finale title “Assassination Run”, it seems that The Boys will be bringing the level of brutality everyone expects to its newest season. It’s certainly not something fans of the show are going to complain about.
The Boys was the most-streamed superhero show of 2022 according to the Nielsen ratings. Viewers love the deconstruction of superhero genre tropes along with the general over-the-top nature of the action sequences. It’s clear the team behind the show is well aware of this. And that’s why part of their strategy to promote this upcoming season is simply to show fans “there’s even more blood to come”. It’s what the people are wanting.
The Boys Season 4
It seems as though production for Season 4 is entering the late stages finally. And some are still hoping for a possible 2023 release date for the new episodes. But, considering the 2-year turnover time between Seasons 2 and 3, it seems like 2024 is a far more likely release window. Season 3 ran during the summer of 2022, and it wrapped filming about 8 months prior. This means if Season 4 wraps filming in the next month or so then fans could potentially see an early-2024 release date.
