Actor Bruce Willis was spotted in public for the first time after his dementia diagnosis. The 67-year-old actor’s latest outing comes almost a year after his family announced that he suffered from aphasia. It is a disorder that affects the way a person communicates. However, the disease progressed and the family had to face more heartbreaking news two weeks ago. Keep reading to find out the details.
Bruce Willis Was Diagnosed With FTD In February 2023
On February 16, the family released a statement mentioning how Bruce’s condition has worsened and he now had a specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (FTD). This disease primarily affects the frontal and temporal brain lobes. As it progresses, it can induce changes in personality, language, and behavior. A source close to the family also revealed that the actor has really slowed down over the year.
They said, “The disease has really progressed and affects his communication, so his family has to anticipate what he might want to do next. He’s not the same guy he was six months ago.”
Bruce Willis Has A Loving Support System
Thankfully, the Die Hard star has a loving family that is committed to helping him live a happy and full life as long as possible. Bruce and his wife Emma Hemming and their daughters, Evelyn and Mabel live just an hour away from the actor’s ex-wife, Demi Moore. The former couple also shares three children, Rumer, Tallulah, and Scout.
The source further revealed, “They’ve created a very loving support system. Bruce is absolutely surrounded by love.”
Now, it seems, the actor is trying to live his life in the best possible way. He was seen in public sporting a grey beanie and blue sweatshirt with black pants and a black watch. As reported by Page Six, Bruce had a day out with two friends in Santa Monica on Thursday.
Talking about her latest diagnosis, Emma said, “While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”
“FTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone. For people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia, and because getting the diagnosis can take years, FTD is likely much more prevalent than we know, “ she continued.
Bruce Willis’ Wife Emma Met With A Dementia Specialist
While Bruce Willis’ family understands that there are no treatments for the disease, they hope that media attention can shed light on the illness. They asserted that the disease needs more research and awareness.
In March, the action star announced his aphasia diagnosis and added that he would be stepping away from acting. Since then Bruce’s relatives have updated his fans and followers on his health. Recently, his wife shared that she met with Teepa Snow, a dementia specialist to learn the best way to take care of Bruce Willis.
