SPOILERS FOR JUJUTSU KAISEN:

Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen came to an end way back in March of 2021. Ever since then, we’ve been anxiously waiting on any news of the second season. Thankfully, we now know a fairly specific release window of July 2023 for the Season 2 premiere. So things are quiet in the anime world for Jujutsu Kaisen at the moment. But for hardcore fans, the manga is still alive and very much active. And the manga can give us major hints, if not just straight-up spoilers, for where the anime is going next. So if you’re an anime-only fan not wanting spoilers for the future this may not be for you. But if you want a hint as to where Jujutsu Kaisen is going next, then let’s talk about it.

Megumi & Sukuna

Sukuna is the fighter, king of curses, and supernatural force that is the driving antagonist of the entire JJK series. He also inhabits the body of the main protagonist, Yuji Itadori. Thus far in the anime, we’ve mostly just seen brief but horrifying moments where Yuji struggles to maintain control over Sukuna.

So we haven’t seen too much about what Sukuna is planning in the anime yet. But we do know that he’s the strongest threat in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. So we definitely know that something is coming. In the manga, we’re finally starting to see that plan play out, and it doesn’t really involve Yuji. It actually involves Megumi.

In the most recent chapter of the JJK manga, it is revealed that Sukuna has been biding his time in Yuji with the hopes of eventually possessing Megumi. Sukuna was hesitant because it was possible that Megumi could maintain control over Sukuna as Yuji does. So he allowed Yuji to maintain control over him for some time with the intent of building his strength to eventually hop over into Megumi. And when he finally does so, he is successful. Seeing a Sukuna-possessed Megumi in the anime will certainly be something to behold. Although it’s likely some time away. Not something we can expect to see in Season 2.

The Future Of Jujutsu Kaisen

So the anime fanbase for JJK continues to hold still until the summer. On top of Season 1, late 2021/early 2022 saw a major moment for the franchise with Jujutsu Kaisen 0. An anime movie that broke records within the industry and filled theaters across the world. With all of that success, it seems more than a little likely that Season 2 of the show will continue to break records. Prepare for 2023 year-end anime lists to be full of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 is out in its entirety and available for streaming on Crunchyroll in the US. Season 2 will be airing its first episodes in July of this year, and the number of episodes has no confirmation as of yet.
