Former 19 Kids & Counting star Anna Duggar and her son Michael are being accused of cultural appropriation. The mother allowed her son to do something that fans found extremely wrong and inappropriate. Scroll down to get all of the details about the situation and see what the family’s fans and critics think of it.

If you follow the Duggars on social media, you may have noticed that Anna Duggar has deactivated her Instagram profile. Since her husband Josh Duggar was arrested on child pornography charges in the spring of 2021, she has chosen to lay low. She’s barely posted anything over the past couple of years. Now, her account is non-existent, so fans can’t use it to keep up with her and the kids.

However, other members of the family have shared photos and videos in which Josh and Anna’s kids appear. That’s how fans most recently saw 11-year-old Michael and called him and his mom Anna Duggar out for cultural appropriation.

Recently, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar hosted their annual ugly Christmas sweater party. On Friday, Jedidiah and Katey Duggar released a new YouTube video with footage from the event. In the video, the couple also announced their second baby is on the way.

In the video, Michael Duggar made an appearance, and his outfit choice was deemed inappropriate by viewers.

Duggar snarkers on Reddit did some sleuthing while watching Jedidiah and Katey’s latest YouTube video. And they discovered that Michael was dressed inappropriately at the family’s Christmas sweater party. One critic took to Reddit and said, “Guys… the kid wearing the Hanukkah sweater (Michael?)is also wearing a yamulke.”

Someone said, “To wear a Hanukkah sweater AND a yarmulke at an ugly sweater party…is a choice. A very very problematic choice…they have no shame or self awareness to post this publicly.”

In the comments section of the post, a few fans pointed out that the sweater alone might not have been a big deal. However, the yamulke takes it to another level, fans said.

Another Duggar snarker made their feelings very clear and wrote:

“You cannot dress up as someone else’s culture ‘for fun.’ You cannot wear another culture’s religious head covering as part of your ‘costume.’ And you certainly cannot dress up like a Jew, AKA the religious and ethnic minority that was persecuted by Christians for the last 2,000 years to a Christmas party. This is called cultural appropriation and it’s also antisemitic.”

Many fans and critics are pointing out that this inappropriate move should have been corrected by Anna Duggar or another adult. They aren’t placing the blame on 11-year-old Michael.
