It has been more than three years since the finale of One Punch Man Season 2. Since then, fans have been waiting patiently and desperately for any kind of update on a new season. But it’s been all quiet. Until now. Fans are getting some big news on Season 3 of One Punch Man. Not just confirmation that it’s coming soon, but confirmation that one of the biggest anime studios in Japan is now working on it. This news has the internet in a frenzy for a couple of reasons. Let’s break them all down here.
Finally A Third Season
The announcement just came out that MAPPA will be heading the animation for One Punch Man Season 3. This is both exciting and somewhat confusing for fans of both One Punch Man and MAPPA. On one hand, MAPPA is a great studio and they’re well known for their high-quality work. What they’ve done with the recent episodes of Attack On Titan along with every episode of Chainsaw Man thus far has been very impressive.
It’s confusing because the studio has been taking on a massive workload recently. They’re still working on both Chainsaw Man and the final part of Attack On Titan‘s final season. On top of that, they’re working on new episodes for Jujutsu Kaisen and Vinland Saga. Now with the announcement that they will be taking over One Punch Man from Season 2’s studio J.C. Staff. It’s just got a lot of fans wondering how they juggle it all at once, and if there’s a tipping point where we’ll be getting quantity over quality. Jokes have been flying all over Twitter about the studio’s massive list of ongoing content. Jokes that are funny but also seriously consider the idea that they may be overworking their employees to get all this done. As long as One Punch Man Season 3 brings us more of the hit show that we’ve loved thus far, fans won’t mind.
The End Of A Hiatus
Without a doubt, One Punch Man is one of the slowest-running shows in anime. From 2015 to now we’ve received only 2 seasons with just 12 episodes each season. That’s a meager 24 One Punch Man episodes in 7 years. The good news is, content from the franchise isn’t totally dry, as the manga is still ongoing and releasing new chapters for any fans hungry for more Saitama.
There is no official release date for the first episode of One Punch Man Season 3. But there is speculation that it will hit screens in the fall of 2023. We’ll likely have a concrete update on this sometime in the spring or summer.
