Derek Hough Pulls Out Of ‘DWTS’ Finale Performance — Why?
Derek Hough still holds the record for the most Mirrorball Trophies ever won for a pro dancer. Now, he’s more content to sit behind the judges’ table. However, he still generally performs once or twice a season.
The Utah dancer already performed during Michael Buble Night this season. He and his fiancee Hayley Erbert were scheduled to perform again tonight during the finale. Sadly, that’s no longer the case. Derek and Hayley updated their fans today to tell them that their performance isn’t happening.
So what happened?
Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert had no choice but to cancel their performance
Since Derek Hough became a judge in Season 29, plenty of fans have looked forward to his special routines with his fiancee Hayley. They always bring a lot of chemistry and spark to the ballroom.
But during a camera blocking rehearsal, Hayley injured her shoulder. It seems like she will make a full recovery, but the bad news is that the injury is bad enough to force the pair to cancel their routine.
“We were doing a lift we’ve danced 100 times, but something weird happened causing Hayley to fall awkwardly and hard onto her shoulder. We tried running through the dance again, but quickly realized Hayley’s shoulder had been compromised,” Derek captioned a recent Instagram post. “As a true dancer Hayley was ready to push through and perform. But sometimes, and definitely in this moment, we thought it best to dance another day.”
He went on to say that Hayley was going to have an MRI to learn the extent of her injuries. But for the time being, she won’t set foot on the dance floor.

The show must go on
Derek Hough might not be performing tonight, but he will still be in the ballroom to judge the final four. He added in his Instagram post that Hayley would also be in attendance and watch from the sidelines.
There will still be plenty of exciting performances to entertain fans, however. Each couple from this season will be back in the ballroom for one last final routine.
It will also be the last time Cheryl Burke performs on stage. She’s been with DWTS for years and decided it’s time to retire. It’s also head judge Len Goodman’s last show. Cheryl admitted she would be willing to come back for Season 32 — if she can have Len’s seat.
Time will tell what the future holds for DWTS. But for now, fans can get excited and watch the final four compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.
