Craig Melvin teases a new responsibility

On Friday, October 28, Craig Melvin took to Twitter to share a photo of a book titled How the World Really Works: The Science Behind How We Got Here and Where We’re Going by Vaclav Smil. He placed a Dunkin’ coffee cup on top of his book. Craig shared that he has a new responsibility. The Today host is getting ready for jury duty.

“Got my book and my java,” Craig Melvin wrote in his Twitter post. “Ready for some civic responsibility. Jury duty here we come.”

He reposted the same photo on Instagram with a different caption. The anchor joked that he was celebrating his “Friyay” at the courthouse. He wondered what was going to be his fate. No matter what, Craig was gearing up for this new role.

“You say Fri-yay! I say jury duty,” Craig Melvin wrote in the caption of his Instagram shot. “Ready to serve or maybe  [sic] sent home before lunch??”

Some of his fellow colleagues took to the comment section to share their thoughts. NBC News journalist Jacob Soboroff simply wrote three saluting emojis. Hugh Hewitt applauded Craig for his “civic duty.” He admitted that it’s “not fun,” “dull,” and “can be stressful.” However, it was still an important role to fulfill.

Meanwhile, Craig Melvin’s fans shared how much they miss him. They understand since some of them had to serve themselves. One wrote: “We missed you on the show this morning.” Another added: “Missed you, but thank you for doing your civic duty.”

Today Show has an all-female crew

Craig Melvin first went missing from the Today Show on Thursday. At the time, his co-hosts Sheneille Jones, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb filled in for him. It was one of the rare times when an all-female crew took over the desk. Craig last appeared on the talk show on Wednesday.

Last week, Craig Melvin was missing because he was working in another location. He explained that he was working on a segment for Sunday Night Football. Craig shared the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the program. He said that the “preparation” was “intense.”
