Netflix’s true crime series Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story stood undefeated at the number 1 spot for the past 21 days. However, it is no longer the most-watched series on the streaming platform. It has successfully been replaced by another one of Ryan Murphy’s masterpieces and that too in the true crime genre. The Watcher has now taken over the top spot as the most-watched series on October 14.
The Watcher Stars Naomi Watts And Bobby Cannavale
While both the shows are limited series in this genre, they are a part of Netflix’s major deal with director Ryan Murphy. As per Deadline, The Watcher is an adaptation of a true story about a couple that started receiving threatening letters after they shifted to a new home they just bought. The story has been re-imagined with popular names in the cast that include Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale. The series features Ryan Murphy’s classic mayhem and murder style to the T.
On the other hand, Dahmer, starring Evan Peters trails the story of Jeffrey Dahmer who becomes one of the most notorious serial killers that exists to date. He was also known as the ‘Milwaukee Monster.’ Dahmer executed the murders in Ohio and Milwaukee between 1978 and 1991 after which he was caught and sentenced to prison. Later, he was killed by his prison mate Christopher J. Scarver.
Netflix’s Dahmer Bags 1 Billion Viewed Hours In 28 Days
Earlier this week, Dahmer set a record and became the second most popular English-language series of all time right behind Stranger Things Season 4. In just over two weeks, the series registered about 701.37 Million hours viewed. However, after 28 days of its release window, the series shot up to 1 Billion hours viewed.
Other titles that make up the top 10 list include:
- The Watcher
- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
- The Midnight Club
- Conversations With A Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes
- The Sinner
- The Empress
- Bling Empire
- High Water
What Is So Unique About Ryan Murphy’s The Watcher Series?
The fact that makes The Watcher scarier than the Dahmer series is the fact that the culprit was never caught in the former’s case. The story is about a house in Chicago bought by Derek and Maria Broaddus back in 2014. While renovating the house, Derek found a letter for him in the mailbox. The creepy letter introduced the writer as the titular character who is responsible for watching over house 657 Boulevard. After receiving a series of threatening letters, the family ultimately sells the house in 2018 for $400,000 which was way less than its original price.
