British Horror Movie ‘The Wicker Man’ Inspires A TV Series
Directed by Robin Hardy, The Wicker Man released in 1973 is a classic British folk horror movie. It won the 1978 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film. The movie was so good that its final scene made it to the 45th position on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments. It also inspired a poorly-received American remake starring Nicolas Cage. However, it didn’t involve the original makers like Hardy. Now, the movie has inspired director/actor Andy Serkis’ production house which recently announced they are creating a new series based on the original.
The Wicker Man Series Will Explore Some New Story Aspects
Although the new series with be based on the original storyline, it would explore some new aspects as well. The 1973 classic followed Sergeant Howie played by Edward Woodward. He attempts to solve a missing child case on the mysterious Summerisle Island located in Scotland. The original enjoys an 89% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the remake only has a 15% score. The 1973 movie became famous for its ‘not the bees’ scene.

Will Andy Serkis Direct The Wicker Man Series?
Overman explains that this new The Wicker Man version will be way different from the original. He explained, “The series explores the same themes of sacrifice, superstition, and ritual that were at its core.”

Although Serkis’ studio is taking up the task of recreating the classic horror movie, whether he will direct it isn’t known yet. Known for his stint in several Marvel movies, The Lord Of The Rings, and The Batman, Serkis serving as the series’ director could be big news for fans. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he at least took charge of directing the pilot episode.
What Other Projects Is Serkis Currently Working On?
Serkis also has other projects in the pipeline that includes Animal Farm which is currently in development.
