The Lord Of The Rings TV series adaptation The Rings Of Power premiered on September 1, 2022. Fans have been wondering whether it is suitable for kids, as well. While the movie adaptation of the novel of the same name was suited for children, is the TV adaptation just as kid-friendly?

The Lord Of The Rings Prequel Is Ideal For 13+ Children

Although this prequel might not have a similar graphic visual depiction as seen in its competitor, House Of The Dragon, there still might be an age rating. So, parents looking forward to streaming the series on Amazon Prime, need to watch out for the rating. According to Meaww, the fantasy series has been assigned a 13+ maturity rating. This means the show isn’t suitable for children below the age of 13.

As per the MPFA, this rating also denotes the content type and acceptance level. The description also reads ‘Parents Strongly Cautioned.’ So, some of the material in the TV series might be considered inappropriate for children. This denotes that the series might comprise content with bloody violence, stronger language, and even some extent of sexual situation.

Executive Producer Confirms The Show Is Ideal For Children Above 11

With the show already two episodes in, parents might have to watch out for whether the next episode is viewable for children. As per Patrick McKay, the executive producer of the show, the new TV series is ideal for children above 11 years of age. In his latest interview, he said that the goal was to ensure that the show was ideal for everyone including kids that are 11, 12, and 13. However, some kids might have to pull up the blanket over their eyes if things get a bit too scary.

Talking about the tone of the series, he further added, “We talked about the tone in Tolkien’s books. This is material that is sometimes scary—and sometimes very intense, sometimes quite political, sometimes quite sophisticated—but it’s also heartwarming and life-affirming and optimistic.”

 “It’s about friendship and it’s about brotherhood and underdogs overcoming great darkness,” he further explained.

The Lord of The Rings Prequel Flaunts 6.1 IMDb Rating

The show stars Robert Amarayo and Morfydd Clark as elves Elrond and Galadriel during the Second Age of Middle-Earth. In terms of ratings, the TV series currently flaunts a 6.1 rating on IMDb. On Rotten Tomatoes, it is a whopping 84 percent fresh. Given that the series is just two episodes in, the ratings are subject to change.
