Netflix Original Horror Movie ‘This Beast’ From Blumhouse: What We Know

Netflix teams with Blumhouse for This Beast

This new horror movie will be directed, written and produced by Kurt Sutter. He is well known for shows like Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C., The Shield, Southpaw and more. In a press release, Sutter said, “Bringing my disturbing, familial story sensibility into the Blumhouse world just seemed like something that had to happen.”

He continued, saying that This Beast is the perfect project for the marriage between him and Blumhouse. Meanwhile, according to Sutter, Netflix is the perfect venue for that “bloody ceremony.”

What’s on Netflix quotes Jason Blum, producer and CEO of Blumhouse, commenting on the partnership. He said they had long been fans of Kurt and his unparalleled storytelling. In fact, Blum described it as “both visceral and packs and emotional punch.” Jason went on to say how excited they are that Blumhouse is producing Sutter’s first feature for Netflix.

Meanwhile, Jason Blum will also produce the move for Blumhouse, while Carla Hacken will produce under her banner Paper Pictures.

Currently, Blumhouse is working on another high-profile Netflix project. They are teaming up with Ryan Murphy for an adaptation of Stephen King’s Mr. Harrigan’s Phone. Previously, Blumhouse released a slasher film Thriller on the streamer in 2019.

What is the horror movie’s plot?

According to Netflix, an 18th-century English village is besieged by a mysterious and elusive beast. This leads to dozens of innocent people being slaughtered, while the mayhem is driven to puritanical heights by religious fanaticism.

Meanwhile, the impossible task of killing this beast is given to a lowly trapper, who promises he can stop the carnage. However, it turns out the hunt is not a professional mission, but a deeply personal one.

The plot of the movie This Beast was inspired by The Beast of Gevaudan, a true story about a mysterious beast that terrorized a French village in the 1760s. This historical name is associated with a man-eating animal or animals that terrorized the former French province.

The attacks were said to have been committed by one or more beasts, with formidable teeth and immense tails. Descriptions from the past describe the beast as a striped hyena, wolf, or wolf-dog hybrid.

Cast and release date of This Beast on Netflix

As at the current time, no cast members have been announced for the Netflix/Blumhouse movie, This Beast. Right now, the movie is in active development with scripts being written and pre-production about to start.
