Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Condition That Put Her In A Walker
Back in 2019 and 2021, fans of Whoopi Goldberg feared the celebrity might die when a cluster of health issues including severe pain landed her in the hospital. Struggling with pain in several different parts of her body, the talk show moderator was forced to drop out of her role in a movie and take a few weeks off from her place on The View. Eventually, things got so bad she was hospitalized. At 66 years old, The View star is feeling much better. Her severe pain, however, still forces her to use a walker to get around.
The View: Whoopi Goldberg shares story of severe pain
Director Kevin Smith, 52, appeared on a recent episode of The View to promote his new movie called Clerks III. After discussing some of the cast with Joy Behar, Kevin directed his attention to Whoopi. He noted that she was supposed to be on his set for that movie. He added that he was “so excited” to have Whoopi Goldberg on his set. “But, then, I think the back thing happened.” He said explaining why she wasn’t in the movie.
Trying to make the conversation a bit more uplifting and funny, Whoopi noted it was so much more than a “back thing.” She also struggled with a “leg thing” and a “front thing” too.
The actress struggled with Sciatic
Whoopi Goldberg ended up dropping out of Kevin’s film back in 2021 when she was taken out of commission by sciatic. The painful condition has forced Whoopi to use a walker to get around because of the pain and difficulty moving. Whoopi did explain what took her off the show when she returned from taking several weeks off of The View.
I was out because I was dealing with something called sciatica, which is basically a bulging disc in your back and it impacts the sciatic nerve, which sends pain down your leg. I’m telling you, it’s like a bad boyfriend… a bad boyfriend who came back to mess with me. There I was, trying to move my leg – impossible to do. It was really horrible.”
As fans of The View recall, her health woes didn’t start in 2021. Whoopi was also absent from The View for several weeks in 2019 too. She was hospitalized after suffering from both pneumonia and sepsis. There was a period of time when fans seriously feared Whoopi wasn’t going to make it.
Despite her pain and her old age, Whoopi Goldberg continues to move forward and thrives in her continued role on the panel of The View.
