‘American Idol’ Why Was Samantha ‘Just Sam’ Diaz Hospitalized?
American Idol winner Samantha ‘Just Sam’ Diaz recently revealed devastating news for her fans. After making it to the Top 5 in the singing competition, the New York resident bagged the top position with the most votes beating runner-up Arthur Gunn. However, things aren’t going well for the singer/songwriter. The 23-year-old recently took to her Instagram account to reveal that she was hospitalized & seriously required help.
American Idol Star Samantha Diaz Updates Fans On Her Health
Diaz initially updated fans about her hospitalization on Wednesday via her Instagram Story. She wrote, “Thank you to everyone that checked on me. I am ALIVE and out of the hospital.”
Again, on Friday, the singer shared positive news with fans thanking everyone for the prayers. She also added, “I’m doing much better now.”

As of now, it isn’t clear what illness landed her in the hospital. However, she did offer a small clue as to what might have been a causal factor for her illness. She shared a snap of the weight scale in her Instagram story with the caption, “100 lbs is crazyyy … I seriously need help.”
Did Samantha Hint At A Weight-Related Health Issue?
Although it seemed like the singing star was pointing towards an abnormally low body weight, she hasn’t confirmed yet what led to her hospitalization. As per ET Online, right after posting the weight scale snap on her IG, she also shared videos with motivational quotes. One among these quotes read, “When you can’t control what’s happening to you, control how you respond to it. That’s where your power is.” This quote was immediately followed by a screenshot of a verse from the bible.

Samantha rose to fame during her American Idol Season 18 appearance in 2020. At the age of 21, Diaz became the first at-home winner after her weekly performances via Zoom setups from her home. During the May 2020 finale of the show, Diaz gushed at her win and said, “Can I thank America now? My dreams have come true.”
“My grandmother has been saying that she doesn’t believe that people like us can have their dreams come true. This is proof to her. I kept on pushing, kept on singing, and look where it’s brought me. I hope to inspire all the little girls who believe their dreams can’t come true. Anyone can do it,” she continued.
Samantha Diaz Reveals The Story Behind Her Stage Name
Diaz wowed both viewers and judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, & Lionel Richie with her impressive vocal talents. Talking about her stage name, “Just Sam,” she said, “In high school, they didn’t know which category to put me in. I wasn’t a girl, not a boy, but both. And I’m like, ‘Just Sam’—it sounds perfect. I think I’m going to use that as my stage name forever.”

Ever since her big win, Diaz has continued to explore the music world. Her latest single ‘Pain Is Power’ recently dropped on YouTube and other platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
