American Idol Season 21 not returning to ABC?

For the past few days, there has been a firestorm of rumors about American Idol Season 21. One report claimed that the new season will have new faces. Another says that the show will get picked up by another network. The show has become one of the longest-running competitions in the country.

As usual, it’s expected to come back. The American Idol Instagram account announced ahead of the semi-finals on Sunday night that the series would return for another season. Audiences have fallen in love with Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, who have been together for five seasons.

Recently, rumors are swirling that the show could find new life on yet another network. Those rumors first started on Hidden Remote, which claims that “American Idol Season 21 is not coming to ABC in 2022.” The report claims the show changed networks for scheduling reasons and didn’t reveal how it got this information.

ABC has not confirmed the details. They also haven’t announced a premiere date for Season 21. However, that news might not be revealed until the Season 20 finale or later this year. A new season typically airs in February or March and concludes in May. So, it should be around the same time for American Idol Season 21 even if it airs on a new network.

Will the judges return?

American Idol fans are concerned about the judges. They took to the previous social media post for the Season 21 announcement. Most fans shared the same sentiments about their hopes that the judges will come back. They have fallen in love with all four of them.

  • “With the same judges, I hope??!!!”
  • “Y’all better keep the same judges too!”
  • “Best panel of judges… They are fun to watch… They compliment talents and [are] very constructive…”

Host Ryan Seacrest has been involved with the show since the first season in 2002. As for the judges, there is no confirmation that all three will return. ABC Entertainment President Craig Erwich told Deadline that they will return since their chemistry gets better with each passing season. The judges are likely to sign their contracts this summer.

  1. Need new judges. This was a terrible season and the judges picks were terrible and cruel

  2. Keep The Judges:
The Judges; Luke, Katy and Lionel is a BIG Part of why I watch the show. They are funny, interact with each other and the singers and you can see they really enjoy their job.

Their hearts are in mentoring, training and caring for the singers along with their future careers and success. They are gifted and feed off of each other, which displays a good working relationship.

Even when they have to say good-bye to a contestant they always send them off with nice words of encouragement.

  3. Stay with the same network, keep the same judges, I love them together, they make the show so fun to watch

  4. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, KATY, LUKE, MY LIONAL, AND SWEET RYAN..PLEASE KEEP THEM ALL..THEY ADD SUCH A DYNAMIC TO THE SHOW..THEY TRULY LOVE THEIR SHOW AND EACH OTHER..THEY ARE SO KIND TO EACH OTHER AND ALL THE CONTESTANTS…LOVE THEM ALL..KEEP THEM ALL….

  5. We LOVE American Idol including the judges. We plan our TV viewing around American Idol and are hugely disappointed when something interferes. We don’t always agree with the judges, but that is part of life. I am sure the performances look different live than they do on TV. Also, they get to know the personalities of the contestants. We only get to see the surface.
