The Amazing Race is finally back with its 34th season. There’s a lot about this season to generate excitement among the fans. From sharing a premiere night with Season 43 of Survivor to the show’s first time visiting the Middle Eastern country of Jordan. There’s a lot more than that bringing conversation around this thrilling new season, as well.
Recently, the cast list for the new season got an official release. It’s all new faces to the show, but that doesn’t mean it’s all faces you’ve never seen before. One face, in particular, will be very familiar to many sports fans out there.
The Amazing Race 34 Cast
The one face that may be familiar to any Amazing Race and ESPN viewers is Rex Ryan. At nearly 60 years old, the sports analyst and former NFL head coach will be the oldest player on the season. Furthermore, he’ll be one of the oldest competitors of all time. It may seem like his age immediately counts him out as a potential winner, but bare in mind the current oldest winner of the race was also 59 (Dave from Season 24). He’s racing with his friend Tim and seems intent on using his knowledge of team-building as well as the wisdom of his age to win it all.
There aren’t any other famous contestants this season, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone else of interest. For example Linton and Sharik, a Jamaican duo who immigrated to the US over a decade ago. A rare case of a non-American duo on the show. We’ll see if their knowledge of cross-cultural living can help them deal with the many cultures they’ll face while racing. There’s also the identical twin pair Emily and Molly. Despite being identical twins they’ve only actually known each other for a year. They had been adopted from South Korea to separate families as infants and only recently reunited via DNA testing.
So it seems like they have a lot of interesting characters lined up for what’s sure to be a fascinating season.
A New World For Racing
Season 33 of The Amazing Race was one of the strangest seasons to date. The odd nature was almost entirely due to the COVID-19 pandemic breaking out around the world just 2 episodes into filming. This forced the team to stop and created a year-and-a-half-long gap between Episodes 2 and 3. Something that’s never been done in the show’s history prior. Thankfully, it appears that the filming of Season 34 went off without a hitch, as many countries began to open up for tourism once again in late 2021/early 2022.
There are certainly still lasting changes brought on by COVID that will be felt in this new season. But, thankfully, one of our favorite reality competition shows is back in full swing once again.
The Amazing Race Season 34 premieres on September 21st.
