Christine Brown Reveals When She Was Done With Polygamy
Sister Wives star Christine Brown isn’t just done with Kody Brown. She’s also done with the polygamist lifestyle too. In a new interview with PEOPLE, the TLC personality revealed she’s focused on her own path these days.
After leaving Kody and the family, Christine took her youngest daughter Truely and went back to Utah. They’ve never looked back and are much happier these days. Keep reading to find out more about the moment Christine realized she didn’t want to be part of the lifestyle any longer.
Christine Brown is happy for the first time in decades
There’s plenty to love about Sister Wives star Christine Brown. Over the years, fans came to love her quirky personality and how much fun she brings to the show. That’s one reason fans feel the last few seasons have been so difficult to watch. Christine clearly wasn’t happy in her marriage to Kody and things just kept getting worse.
In the new PEOPLE interview, Christine revealed she knew several years ago that the marriage just wasn’t working out. The spiritual union and family setup always had issues, but the TLC personality decided around 2018 that she wasn’t interested in continuing for much longer.
“I started thinking maybe this isn’t working for me,” the 50-year-old said. “And then I stopped believing in polygamy. I realized I didn’t really want to live it anymore. I didn’t like sharing a husband or feeling like I wasn’t important.”
In 2021, Christine decided she had enough. She and Truely left and returned to Utah.

“We got here and that night when I went to bed, I realized I was home,” she continued. “It was just like that. And I got to start over again and it was exciting and it was new and so scary because I had no idea what to expect, but I was so excited. I remember feeling hope for the first time in a long time because I just got to take my life by my own and go. It was wonderful.”
Redditors discuss the moment the marriage truly crumbled
Redditors created a poll where they determined when Christine truly decided she was done with Kody. The poll options were pretty bleak. Viewers realized there was no shortage of reasons for the Sister Wives star to leave her husband.
Options included:
- As soon as they said their marriage vows
- When Robyn entered the family
- When Kody told her “honor the whole family (Robyn) and then I’ll love you”
- When he told the world that he was not attracted to her
- When he almost killed Truely
- When he missed Ysabel’s surgery
“When Robyn entered the family” ultimately won, but the other poll options were pretty telling. After decades of mistreatment, Christine Brown simply decided that polygamy was no longer for her.
