‘General Hospital’ Emma Samms Back As Holly Sutton
Emma Samms is coming back to General Hospital. The actress, who plays Holly Sutton, last appeared on the show in 2020, and all the characters who loved her believe she died.
Emma Samms returning to General Hospital
Deadline broke the news that Emma Samms was returning as Holly Sutton to General Hospital. “I can’t believe that it’s been 40 years since I first appeared on General Hospital and that, once again, I get to play the wonderful character of Holly Sutton,” she said. “No one is more interested in what’s happened to her since we saw her two years ago, being held captive by a mysterious villain, than me!”
It turns out this return was a couple of years in the making. However, Samms contracted COVID-19 early in the pandemic. She ended up sick for a very long time with long-form COVID-19. “They set up this marvelous story right before the pandemic hit and I was really excited about coming back,” Samms said. “And then not only was there a pandemic, but I got sick, and Frank [Valentini] has been just wonderfully patient and supportive and understanding, way more than I could possibly have ever hoped.”
Producer Frank Valentini is also excited to have Emma back on the daytime soap. “I am thrilled the wonderful Emma Samms will return to the canvas in October, so we can continue telling Holly’s story and the fans can finally see what happened after we learned she was alive and being held hostage.”
What happened to Holly Sutton in her last appearance?
That Holly Sutton is alive on General Hospital is no surprise to the viewers, but all her loved ones on the show believed she died. Her final storyline finished in 2020. This came after her ex-husband, Robert Scorpio, learned she had been killed under the orders of Peter August. However, while he grieved for a short time, he soon became suspicious.
He had every reason to be because he learned Holly might still be alive. Scorpio investigates when he heads to England for Holly’s memorial alongside Olivia Quartermaine. Scorpio heard a distress call from someone who sounded like Holly and set off for Monte Carlo to find her. Things ended tragically when Winston Rudge ended up arrested by the WSB. He told Scorpio that Holly was alive at Le Lucien, but they killed her when she kept getting out of control.
Scorpio found a body, and Holly’s wedding ring was on their finger. With this, and Winston’s explanation, Scorpio realizes she was dead, and the story seemed to end there. The problem is that General Hospital viewers saw that Holly wasn’t dead. She was last seen held captive and had a new jailor.
