Patients come to Dr. Pimple Popper with various different skin ailments that are quite painful. Occasionally, a skin condition comes along that stumps Dr. Sandra Lee. James from Season 8 left the doctor scratching her head for a minute, but she found a diagnosis. Here is what the pounds of growth on James’ skin are.

30 Years Of Painful Skin Growth

Season 8 of Dr. Pimple Popper has had some interesting and shocking stories. The newest installment of the program followed a man named James from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The 40-year-old had growths on the back of his leg and lower abdomen. According to James, the growth started more than 30 years ago.

He was eight years old and was hit in the stomach with a baseball. The injury required surgery and small bumps started to pop up around the area shortly after the procedure. Over time, the bumps grew in size and became painful. Another growth began to appear on the back of his leg in 2016. The two growth sites weigh between five and seven pounds each.

In 2019, he realized another growth began on his upper right thigh and began to seek help from doctors. After several CAT scans and seeing various professionals, he had no answers. While he waited to hear from physicians about his condition, his right leg began to become more painful. He stated that the weight in that leg feels like “a thousand needles.”

Not only were James’ skin growths painful, but they were also a mystery to him and previous doctors. His biggest concern was that the growths were slowly killing him and that he wouldn’t be able to be there for his wife and daughter.  Thankfully, Dr. Pimple Popper was able to pinpoint a diagnosis for the man.

Dr. Pimple Popper Diagnoses The Issue

Over the last several years, James has visited more than 10 doctors attempting to get a diagnosis and treatment plan for his condition. He sought help from Dr. Lee, hopeful that she would be able to help him. Even she was stumped by his condition at first.

It was quickly learned that none of the previous doctors had performed a skin biopsy on James. Without that information, Dr. Lee knew she wasn’t getting the whole picture. Despite that, she confessed that she hadn’t ever seen anything like James’ condition before.

She offered a hypothesis as to what caused James’ growth but wanted to perform a biopsy to see if she could provide a diagnosis for him. They gathered samples from the growth on his abdomen as well as his leg.

As it turns out, he has chronic lymphedema. This condition occurs when there is a buildup of lymph fluid in the body. His adolescent injury and surgery are thought to have created scar tissue, leading to this buildup.

Unfortunately, Dr. Lee informed James and his wife that she wouldn’t be able to assist him with his condition, but she would help connect them with a specialist who could.

While Dr. Lee wasn’t able to help James, this is the first time he has received a diagnosis. He can now potentially move forward with finding a treatment plan that could change his life.

You can watch new episodes of Dr. Pimple Popper on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
