Jenna Johnson Admits Disbelief & Joy After Finally Conceiving
Jenna Johnson surprised Dancing With The Stars fans earlier this month when she made a very special announcement. She and her husband Val Chmerkovskiy are expecting a new baby in January!
Now that the news is public, Jenna is opening up a little bit more about her pregnancy journey thus far and her struggles to conceive. Pregnancy is a difficult journey for many and the professional dancer wants to raise awareness about it.
Jenna Johnson shares the moment her life changed for the better
Before Jenna Johnson announced her pregnancy to the world, she praised her sister-in-law Peta Murgatroyd for speaking up about her own pregnancy struggles. Peta and her husband Maks Chmerkovskiy had three miscarriages in the span of a few years before deciding to try IVF treatments. If Jenna also struggled with miscarriages, she hasn’t said so yet. But she did admit that she and Val struggled to have a baby too.
On Instagram, the 28-year-old dancer revealed that she and Val had actually been trying to get pregnant for two years. They just weren’t having much luck. But that all changed a few months ago when Jenna discovered she was indeed pregnant. She shared the moment she first tested positive online.
“The moment my whole world changed,” Jenna captioned her video. “We had actually stopped trying to conceive for about 6 months to mentally/emotionally give ourselves a break… so the shock, disbelief, and sheer joy in this moment is a memory I will never forget 🤍”
“I want to keep this moment very positive because there is so much to celebrate and my heart is overflowing with gratitude, BUT our journey getting to this point wasn’t an easy one,” the DWTS pro continued. “I remember watching people share these videos and aching because I wished so badly I could experience that joy. After two years of infertility, and hundreds of negative tests after negative tests, it was heart wrenching at times to stay optimistic and made me question whether I would ever have this opportunity.”
The dancer wants to share her experience with others
Jenna concluded her joyful Instagram post with, “I will go into more depth about our fertility journey a little later on, but if any of you out there are struggling to get pregnant, suffering from infertility, or mourning a pregnancy loss… don’t lose HOPE. It may not happen on your timeline and the journey may rip your heart open at times, but don’t give up on yourself and your precious baby! It will happen ✨”
Just before Jenna went public with her pregnancy, she said in an interview with Us Weekly that she hated it when people asked about her plans to have children. The dancer knew they meant well but found the question intrusive and rude.
“I think it’s a really insensitive question actually,” Jenna told the publication. “You never know what somebody’s going through and the amount of DMs and comments, you know, ‘Babies on the brain,’ ‘When are you gonna have a baby?’ ‘When are you and Val gonna have a baby?’ It adds pressure, but also, it’s nobody’s business.”
Fans wish Jenna and Val all the best on their pregnancy journey and can’t wait to hear more updates.
