It’s that time of year for conventions again. Plus, with it being the first year since COVID that all gathering places can meet at capacity, the cons are crazier than ever. Geeks are getting all that good content they want whether it’s from comic con or anime expo. For the writer of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime, it’s his very first time at the popular expo in Los Angeles. He and the CEO of MAPPA (The studio that produces Jujutsu Kaisen) sat down with ComicBook.com to talk about details of one of the most popular anime in the world. As well as some details on the upcoming Season 2.
The Creators Tell All
The writer of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime is Hiroshi Seko. Not to be confused with the writer of the manga Gege Akutami, who of course is also the creator of the whole franchise. Seko’s job in bringing the manga to the screen cannot be understated. His excellent work is a big part of the reason why the show’s become such an instant hit. When both Seko and MAPPA‘s CEO Manabu Otsuka got the question about their favorite Jujutsu Kaisen character, they both had very different answers. Seko said Fushiguro where Otsuka said Toge.
“I think Fushiguro is a very well-rounded character. Like, he has this gap where on the outside he looks like a very cool and calm collective character. But really there’s some comical sides to him as well, you know?” Seko said as to his reasoning behind favoring Megumi Fushiguro.
Seko also brought up Fushiguro’s relationship with his older sister as being a favorable characteristic. Something that humanizes a character that can otherwise come across as cold and oftentimes uncaring.
“As for Toge, I enjoy his humanity and the fact that he’s actually very caring. If you think about it, with Panda and Yuta, he cares about them,” said Otsuka concerning his reason for having Toge as his favorite.
It’s clear that both men favor a kind of well-roundedness in their favorite characters. Characters who are much more than just how they appear on the surface. Certainly, Jujutsu Kaisen is a story that constantly peels back the layers of its characters.
The Future Of Jujutsu Kaisen
As for the question about the future of the show, both interviewees were hesitant to give much info. They both seem extremely excited about the future of the show, however. They encourage anyone who wants to know what’s coming next to pick up the best-selling and still ongoing manga by Akutami.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is currently set for a 2023 release. The specific time of the year is, as of right now, unknown. Considering they’re giving us very few details as of right now, it’s unlikely we’ll get it before the second half of the year. But hopefully, we’ll get some updates sometime later this year or early in 2023.
