Alfonso Ribeiro Returns to ‘DWTS’ — But In What Role?
Alfonso Ribeiro has always had an intense passion for Dancing With The Stars. He and Witney Carson won the Mirrorball Trophy back in Season 19 and he adored his time on the show.
Now, it seems like the ballroom dream isn’t quite over for the actor. News recently broke that he will be a new co-host on Dancing With The Stars Season 31 when it comes to Disney+ on September 19.
Alfonso Ribeiro joins Tyra Banks as a co-host for Season 31
Many members of the Dancing With The Stars team already confirmed there will be a lot of changes ahead of Season 31. For quite some time, fans speculated that there would be a hosting shakeup. For several months now, rumors have circulated that Tyra Banks wouldn’t be returning as host. She also recently launched her ModelLand project, leading many to believe she wouldn’t have time for DWTS.
But now, it doesn’t seem like those rumors were entirely true. Alfonso Ribeiro will be entering the ballroom as her co-host, but it doesn’t seem like she’s gone for good.
“Dancing With The Stars has been such an important part of my life for so many years, and I am ecstatic to officially re-join this tight-knit family as co-host,” The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor said in a statement. “Tyra and I have a longstanding friendship that I hope will resonate with all of the fans at home as we kick off this new season on Disney+.”
Alfonso even uploaded his own video on Instagram confirming that he will join the cast this season. It appears that all four judges will also come back to Season 31 this fall.
The actor will reunite with one of his best friends
Dancing With The Stars viewers that caught Season 19 remember how close Witney Carson and Alfonso Ribeiro became during their run on the show. The two friends are probably incredibly excited to be on the same stage again, even though it’s under different circumstances.
All signs indicate that Witney also plans to return to Dancing With The Stars if asked. She recently revealed that she’s back in the rehearsal room and training for the upcoming season. DWTS execs always have the final say over returning dancers, but it always pays off to train and prepare in the meantime.
She also posted a touching tribute to her Season 19 partner and congratulated him on his new role.
“Can’t think of a more perfect fit to host @dancingwiththestars than my brother/uncle (I say uncle because he’s twice my age 🤣😘) @therealalfonsoribeiro 👏🏼🙏🏼🤍 how grateful I am to have your friendship all these years and to have these monumental memories together,” Witney wrote. “I was just a baby, at 18 years old when I got you as a partner and you made my dreams reality! I cannot wait to hopefully be on that stage with you once again, and watch you light it up✨”

I can’t believe they have kept tyra banks. I thought that she went on to another gig. I like Alfonso but with tyra oh no. I am not paying for Disney plus even though DwTS was my favorite show. So disappointing in this very disappointing world.
Sorry DwTS you’ve lost another watcher.
