Netflix Devastates Supernatural Fans With Latest Cancellation
Recently, Netflix canceled Archive 81, leaving fans with one huge cliffhanger going nowhere. Also, the streamer decided not to renew Another Life, despite the fact that Season 2 was better than Season 1. Now, Netflix has taken the ax to another supernatural/horror/sci-fi series, where we hopefully won’t be left with a never-ending cliffhanger.
Netflix is busy canceling shows?
After recent news that Netflix had canceled Season 2 of Archive 81, fans of the supernatural and horror were devastated. Season 1 did take a while to pick up, but by the end of the season, fans were clamoring for more.
Now, the streamer has canceled yet another supernatural/horror show, no doubt devastating fans yet again.
Netflix doing a supernatural spring clean
Basically, it is that time of year when, like us, the networks have to spring clean. It’s that time when they start canceling shows that probably weren’t doing so well. Meanwhile, Netflix is among those streaming channels that have a clean-out every now and then.
Fans of horror and supernatural will no doubt be hugely disappointed to hear that the popular Locke & Key series is not returning for another season. According to Deadline, the series was so popular during Season 1, that Netflix had apparently worked with Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill to come up with a three-season plan for the show. However, if what Deadline says is true, canceling after Season 3 could have been the plan all along.
Fans had been waiting for news of when Season 3 would drop and while it is disappointing to hear the season will be the last, there is, at least, some good news. It seems that Season 3 will wrap on a satisfying note for fans, rather than leaving them hanging on a cliff.
Three seasons is the ideal length
According to Cuse and Averill, agreeing on Season 3 as an ending was always the plan. They said once they began working on Locke & Key, they felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the Locke family story to a close.
They said, as storytellers, they are grateful to have had the opportunity to tell their version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story the way they planned. However, they did note they are keeping all those magical keys for their own personal use.
When can we expect Season 3 of Locke & Key
When Season 2 of Locke & Key dropped on Netflix on October 22, 2021, the series had already been renewed for Season 3. While fans knew the series would come to a close at some stage, production had already started, rounding off the story for fans.
However, now fans know that Season 3 will be the last of the Netflix supernatural series. Meanwhile, that season will be shorter, with only eight episodes. Fans will recall Season 1 and 2 both had 10 episodes.
As yet, there is no news of a premiere date for the third season of Locke & Key. However, we will keep readers posted and let them know as soon as we know.
