People who watch My 600 Lb. Life are asking a serious question about the cast member’s ability to care for their children.

There have been a number of ethical questions about the TLC show in the past. Now, fans are wondering if the patients featured on the program should lose their children because they aren’t able to truly care for them.

Fans Speculate About Child Abuse And Neglect

More recently, the show has been a hot-button topic because viewers have been debating its authenticity. It has been revealed that many of the patients featured in the past have been given scripted lines. In some cases, My 600-Lb. Life producers promised to cover medical expenses and the patients never received the money. The production company itself has been accused of negligence and fraud.

A Redditor opened up a new conversation about the show’s participants: are they guilty of child abuse? The post read, “So many go on and on about how they want to be there for their children, they are doing it for the children, they don’t want to leave the children, then proceed to manipulate and control and beat down their offspring verbally to get what they want.”

Other people jumped into the discussion recounting past patients whose children concerned them. One commenter recalled James King. He appeared on the show in 2017 but sadly lost his life three years later. During the time he was on My 600-Lb. Life King’s daughter was forced to drop out of school to take care of him.

“Many of the children are built in care givers. Stolen childhoods. It breaks my heart,” another Redditor added.

That is the biggest problem with all of it, Redditors concluded. Asking small children, or even adult children, to give up their lives to take care of their parents is just unfair. “I totally think it’s child abuse. Parents are debilitating their children for their own emotional needs,” one person chimed in.
