Lauren Lee Smith Found Portraying Lori Vallow A Challenge
When Lauren Lee Smith took on this Lifetime role, she told TV Line she had wanted to “shake things up.” Portraying the complex Lori Vallow was the challenge she was looking for. “I took a deep dive into the whole story, and I found it morbidly fascinating.”
Moreover, Smith had problems understanding Vallow. She researched her real-life character. Eventually, she discovered that Lori was considered “loving.” However, this was before she met Daybell. Once she met him, she was “brainwashed.”
Equipped with this information, Smith could come up with how to portray this horrific transformation.
I found the character so surreal and hard to understand, and the idea of trying to figure out how this woman came to do what she had done intrigued me. That, and coming up with our own interpretation of how she got to where she got, was a really interesting challenge.
