On Wednesday, February 9, it was reported that the Duggar sisters‘ privacy lawsuit has been dismissed by the judge. What happened, and why has it been dismissed?

In case you missed it, Joy-Anna Forsyth, Jessa Seewald, Jill Dillard, and Jinger Vuolo have been in the midst of a privacy lawsuit for years. In May of 2017, the Duggar sisters filed a lawsuit against the city of Springdale, Arkansas, police officials, and Washington County over “other civil rights.”

At the time, the women claimed that the officials in Springdale released redacted investigation documents to InTouch Weekly. InTouch Weekly’s report also contained the sisters’ names and revealed them publicly. The released documents contained the details of Josh Duggar’s molestations.

Because the Duggar sisters’ names were released publicly with the legal documents, they noted that they had suffered “emotional distress” as a result.

Though the settlement conference was set for February 10, it was canceled on February 9. The cancelation occurred shortly before it was announced that the lawsuit was dismissed by the judge. So, what happened, and why was the lawsuit completely dismissed?

Duggar sisters’ privacy suit is dismissed.

On Wednesday, February 9, a local news outlet revealed that the Duggar sisters’ lawsuit had been dismissed. It was dismissed because the sisters did not prove their case.

U.S. District Judge Timothy L. Brooks stated, “The Court finds that Plaintiffs have not presented any direct proof or reasonable interference…and for this reason, the entire claim must be dismissed.”

Brooks added that “because there is no evidence on which a jury could rely to show that Defendants believed that disclosing the reports would be illegal, this claim is dismissed with prejudice.”

The judge also noted that “the Court is skeptical that a state actor could intend to inflict emotional distress and at the same time believe he was complying with the law—regardless of how his resulting professional negligence might affect others.”

So, this is the end of the Duggar sisters’ privacy lawsuit. It’s unclear what’s next for them as they move past this case. This news comes a couple of months after Josh Duggar was found guilty on two counts of child pornography. He’s facing decades in prison and is currently awaiting sentencing.

  1. Public faces found in public places. Their names already out there as reality stars. That being said I still feel they were wronged. Yet know their brother the source of the whole mess and public disdain.
