ABC still planning senior citizen dating show?

Right before the global coronavirus pandemic turned 2020 upside down, ABC was plotting an addition to the Bachelor Nation franchise. Viewers were taken by surprise by an on-screen casting call for senior citizens looking for love.

Network exec Rob Mills confirmed the spin-off, noting that they received a massive amount of interest.

However, shortly after the casting call, television production shutdown due to the pandemic. The spin-off was put on the back-burner. “The most important thing is getting ‘Bachelorette’ done and ‘Bachelor’ done,” Mills said at the time.

The network did manage to churn out two seasons of The Bachelorette and one season of The Bachelor with strict quarantine guidelines and filming in a “bubble” at isolated resorts. The currently airing Season 26 was filmed in 2021 after it was safe to lighten the filming restrictions.

However, television production is on the verge of shutting down again due to the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Variety reported in July of 2021 that the Bachelor Senior was still a go, but there hasn’t been a new update. However, there is newfound interest. Why?

63-year-old retiree meets Clayton Echard

The limo exit is a time for Bachelor contestants to make a lasting impression on both the audience and the lead. A new book outlines eight of the most interesting limo exits, including The Sidecar.

The Sidecar involves bringing a non-contestant along for the ride to break the ice. Season 26 contestant Rachel‘s ‘Sidecar’ was a 63-year-old retiree named Holly.

After approaching lead Clayton Echard, she joked that she was in the wrong place and looking for the Bachelor Senior show.

Heavy reports that Holly was a hit with viewers. Many took to social media to promote the senior for the spin-off.

Could Holly join Bachelor Senior Edition?

It seems the senior citizen spin-off of The Bachelor is once again on hold due to the COVID-19 resurgence. During her brief appearance on Season 26, Holly revealed she has two children and desperately wants grandchildren. However, she didn’t reveal if she’s single and looking for love.

But Bachelor Nation fans agree that she would be a great choice as a contestant on Bachelor Senior if ABC goes ahead with the project.
