Netflix: ‘The Fall Of The House Of Usher’ By Mike Flanagan: What We Know

Mike Flanagan, the mind behind some of the best Netflix horror series, is back with a limited series adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher. Viewers will remember his work on The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep, and, more recently, Midnight Mass. Mike Flanagan and The Fall of the House of Usher for Netflix

Some of the best Netflix horror shows come from the amazing mind of writer and director Mike Flanagan. Fans have so far been terrified by The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep and Midnight Mass. Flanagan is currently in post-production for an upcoming series Midnight Club but is already planning his next epic horror series.

The Fall of the House of Usher comes from that other incredible mind, Edgar Allan Poe. It starts filming in January 2022. The upcoming Netflix Original horror series will be written, directed and produced by Flanagan. Meanwhile, the production company behind it is Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy’s Intrepid Pictures. That company was behind all his previous movies and TV series.

Plot and cast of the new limited horror series

The Fall of the House of Usher was written by master horror author, Edgar Allan Poe. The story was first published in Burton’s Gentleman’s Magazine in 1839. It was then included in Poe’s collection of published short stories, Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque.

According to issue #1276 of Production Weekly, the series is based on multiple works of Edgar Allan Poe. The themes of the story include madness, family, isolation, and metaphysical identities.

The story is narrated by a man who has been invited to visit his childhood friend, Roderick Usher. He gradually makes it clear that his twin sister, Madeline, is not quite dead, even though she is in the family vault. When she reappears in her blood-stained shroud, the visitor rushes to leave. As he goes, the entire house falls apart and sinks into a lake.

As to the cast, Flanagan is keeping the list of actors firmly hidden, however, he is known for working with actors he has worked with in the past. When the list of cast members is eventually released, we are sure to see some familiar names.

Production status of The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix

According to Production Weekly, The Fall of the House of Usher is currently in pre-production. Filming is set to start in Vancouver, Canada, on Monday, January 24, 2022. Meanwhile, filming is expected to take four months and is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

As filming only ends next year, viewers are unlikely to see the series drop in 2022. According to What’s on Netflix, it is likely to premiere in early 2023.
