Read more about the sequel and its plot and watch a teaser trailer for the movie below.
Netflix Original movie sequel Extraction 2
In 2020, the world met Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a black market mercenary seemingly with no fear. The first Netflix movie Extraction became the streaming channel’s most successful Original movie to date. More than 99 million households streamed the movie, leading it to outshine the likes of 6 Underground, Bird Box and Murder Mystery. It is thus no real surprise that a sequel is in the works, with filming to start soon.
As with the first movie, the Netflix Original movie Extraction 2 will again be directed by Sam Hargrave. The Russo brothers also return as executive producers on the project. However, this time around, only Joe Russo is credited for writing the movie script.
What is the plot of the Original movie?
In the first movie, a black market mercenary was hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. However, in the dark underworld of drug traffickers and weapons deals, what is already a deadly mission turns impossible.
In the sequel, Extraction 2, Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) has barely survived his grievous wounds from the Dhaka, Bangladesh mission, but his team is ready for their next mission. This time around, Tyler is tasked with extracting a family that is at the mercy of a Georgian gangster. Our fearless mercenary infiltrates one of the world’s deadliest prisons in order to save the family.
However, when the extraction gets too hot and the gangster dies in the battle, his equally ruthless brother tracks down Tyler and his team to Sydney, Australia, in order to get revenge.
Current production status of Netflix Original movie Extraction 2
At the time of writing, the sequel to Extraction is officially in the pre-production stage. The movie was originally set to be filmed in Sydney. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions in that country, production is moving to Prague in the Czech Republic.
A totally muscular Chris Hemsworth himself confirmed on Instagram that filming will now start in late November 2021. He captioned his post, “Six weeks out from shooting on Extraction 2 feelin [sic] good and ready. Shout out to my team at @centrfit for giving me all the tools I need for a bulletproof rig.”
As for the cast of the sequel, so far, the only confirmed cast member is Chris Hemsworth. However, as soon as we have more details we will let readers know. Until then, readers can watch the teaser trailer below that was aired at Netflix’s TUDUM event.
As for a release date, if filming progresses as planned, it is likely that Extraction 2 will debut on Netflix at some time in the latter half of 2022. What’s On Netflix theorizes that it will likely premiere in July or August as a big summer release.
