Netflix Original Movie ‘Extraction 2’: Trailer, Release Date, What We Know
Extraction was likely the biggest Netflix Original movie so far and now it will have a sequel, Extraction 2. In 2020, the world met Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a black market mercenary seemingly with no fear. The first Netflix movie Extraction became the streaming channel’s most successful Original movie to date. More than 99 million households streamed the movie, leading it to outshine the likes of 6 Underground, Bird Box and Murder Mystery. It is thus no real surprise that a sequel is in the works, with filming to start soon.
What is the plot of the Original movie?
In the first movie, a black market mercenary was hired to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. However, in the dark underworld of drug traffickers and weapons deals, what is already a deadly mission turns impossible.
However, when the extraction gets too hot and the gangster dies in the battle, his equally ruthless brother tracks down Tyler and his team to Sydney, Australia, in order to get revenge.
Current production status of Netflix Original movie Extraction 2
At the time of writing, the sequel to Extraction is officially in the pre-production stage. The movie was originally set to be filmed in Sydney. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions in that country, production is moving to Prague in the Czech Republic.
As for the cast of the sequel, so far, the only confirmed cast member is Chris Hemsworth. However, as soon as we have more details we will let readers know. Until then, readers can watch the teaser trailer below that was aired at Netflix’s TUDUM event.
As for a release date, if filming progresses as planned, it is likely that Extraction 2 will debut on Netflix at some time in the latter half of 2022. What’s On Netflix theorizes that it will likely premiere in July or August as a big summer release.
