The story involves 15-year-old Jules Mathis, who returns home from school to find a strange girl sitting in her kitchen. Her psychiatrist mother reveals that Mae is one of her patients at the hospital and will be staying with them for a few days. However, soon, the girl is wearing Jules’ clothing, sleeping in her bedroom and pushing her out of her position on the school paper. She is also flirting with Jules’ boyfriend and has no intention of leaving.
Soon things got weird, as Jules walks in on a half-dressed Mae, to spot a pentagram carved into the girl’s back. She then discovers that the girl is a survivor of a strange cult from a nearby town. Even worse, the cult will stop at nothing to get Mae back.
In her interview, Polatin explained that the novel Devil in Ohio is based on a true story, but she is keeping the background under wraps.
