The Walking Dead’s Alpha rushed to hospital

Monday night saw Samantha Morton, 43, who plays the role of Alpha in The Walking Dead, rushed to the hospital. The actress took to Twitter to let fans know about her hospitalization. This comes as the country enters its latest COVID-19 lockdown.

In her tweet, Morton praised the NHS doctors and nurses that cared for her. For her, seeing the “red zone,” designated for COVID-19 patients, was a humbling experience. In her tweet, Morton pleads with fans to “wear a mask” after her scary experience.

Anaphylactic shock not COVID-19

Morton’s representative gave a statement to MailOnline to say she was admitted after suffering an anaphylactic shock. Due to a high temperature and difficulty breathing, Samantha was placed in a “red zone” ward, used to treat COVID-19 patients.  While spending several hours in the ward, Morton experienced the current shocking situation in the hospitals first-hand.

However, happily, Morton is now recovering at home. In a further tweet, she thanked fans for their support, telling them she was on the mend. She said how grateful she was to the nurses and doctors for being so kind and that she is OK because of them.

Samantha Morton’s role on The Walking Dead

Morton joined AMC’s The Walking Dead in the role of Alpha last year. As an English actress, she handled her American accent well and most fans had no idea of her origins.  On the zombie horror show, she plays the leader of a survivors group, The Whisperers, who wear the skins of walkers to mask their presence.

Back in March, Morton admitted she still can’t bear the sight of extras dressed in full zombie makeup. While she plays a terrifying character on the show, she told Entertainment Weekly that they scare her so much, as they look so real.

Morton also starred on the BBC show Harlots in 2020. Back in 1999, Samantha received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Sweet and Lowdown. 2004 saw her nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for In America.

COVID-19 lockdown in the UK

Morton’s hospitalization comes as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announces that the country is in its third coronavirus lockdown. This follows a huge rise in cases over the Christmas and New Year period. New restrictions include a ban on people from different households mixing and non-essential businesses, schools, colleges and universities are to be closed.

Fortunately for Samantha, it seems she wasn’t suffering from the coronavirus. However, she does hope that fans will take her message and wear masks from now on.
