‘Today’ Hoda Kotb’s Exit Opens Door For Matt Lauer Collab?

At one point in time, Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb were very close. They both are well-known journalists. A source close to Matt recently stated that Matt would like to team up with Hoda following her Today exit. The source believes that this collaboration could save Matt’s reputation.

Matt Lauer To Team Up With Hoda Kotb

Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb were once very close friends. They work in the same field and have shared many of the same experiences. Hoda recently announced that she will be leaving her position at Today. A source close to Matt revealed that he wants to team up with Hoda after she leaves Today. The source said “It would prove very beneficial for Matt to align with Hoda because she’s so well respected in the field,” an insider exclusively tells In Touch. “She could make him respectable again.”

Matt Lauer, 66-years-old, ousted news anchor was fired from Today after allegations of sexual misconduct. He has kept a low profile since the incident.  Hoda Kotb was named as co-anchor after Mr. Lauer was terminated. Matt’s been “plotting a TV return for the longest time with little luck.” A source close to Matt thinks that a team up with Hoda is his “golden ticket to success.” They can certainly discuss what it was like to be on Today.

Kotb announced her departure from Today on September 26, 2024. Hoda was adamant that she was leaving the show so that she could spend more time with her kids. She said, “Obviously I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have,” she continued, “I feel like we only have a finite amount of time. And so, with all that being said, this is the hardest thing in the world.”

A source close to Mr. Lauer has said he is “already making overtures and saying she wouldn’t need to work full-time. He knows she’d want quality time with her kids, which was the whole point of her quitting the morning rat race.”

Matt Lauer & Hoda Kotb Joint Venture

What would a collab between Matt Lauer and Hoda Kotb even look like? Matt has suggested several options. The source stated “He’s throwing lots of options her way, maybe even a Matt and Hoda podcast,” the source says. “That’s how he’s luring her. And the truth is, she’s always had a soft spot for Matt.”

There may be some obstacles to a collaboration. A source close to Mr. Lauer says that Hoda would no longer be able to work with NBC. The source explained “Her bosses would be wise to make it part of her deal not to walk off with Matt, but Matt’s determined to get back out there and prove himself. He’s convinced Hoda is the way.”

Hoda has said that she still communicates with Matt. In a 2018 interview she said “Yeah we keep in touch with him,” she said. “I mean look, this is one of those complex situations. I’ve known him since I started working at NBC [in 1998]. When I was sick with breast cancer, he was the first to call. He helps and helped in ways that … you know, he was incredible in that way. There is that Matt and then there’s the Matt that the accusers speak of. And those accusers’ voices matter and that story matters and it’s … It’s still tough, right?”
