Where Is Matt Lauer Five Years After Shock ‘Today’ Firing?
Where in the world is Matt Lauer, the disgraced Today Show alum? From 1994-2017, he was a mainstay on the NBC morning show. Moreover, for 20 of those years, he was a co-anchor, the face that millions watched every morning.
Five years ago, on November 29, 2017, Savannah Guthrie announced that the long-time host of the NBC morning show was fired for serious misconduct allegations.
Where is Matt Lauer now?
Savannah Guthrie Announces ‘Sad Morning’ At Today Show
Today Show watchers across the country were shocked on November 29, 2017, when the ashen-faced Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb co-anchored that morning’s Today Show on NBC. Where was Matt Lauer? Viewers were going to soon find out.
Savannah started with, “This is a sad morning here at Today and NBC News. NBC News Chairman Andy Lack sent the following note to our organization.”
She then continued, with Andy Lack’s written note pictured behind the co-anchors.
Dear Colleagues,
On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after a serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards.
As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment. While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years he has been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.
This firing opened up the floodgates of many more accusations, as well as accusations of rape. Eventually, Savannah and Hoda became permanent co-anchors, and the two worked hard to overcome this shocking situation.
This scandal was a big part of Ronan Farrow’s book, Catch And Kill. He spoke with some of the alleged victims, including Brooke Nevils, who revealed that having intimate relations with Lauer, her work superior, was both “transitional” and to keep from losing her employment with the network.

Is Matt Lauer Working Now?
Now that it has been five years, is the 64-year-old former NBC morning anchor working? According to People, Lauer is not employed.
Instead, an exclusive source shares that Lauer “kind of withdrawn from several friendships in the last year.”
The source also shared that Matt is especially unhappy with Katie Couric’s book, “Going There.” Couric shared private texts and she “semi-slammed him.”
Therefore he has “lost trust” in people from his past. Moreover, he does not communicate with them anymore.
Matt and Katie were co-anchors between 1997 and 2006. Lauer took over for Bryant Gumbel.
Is Matt Lauer Still Married?
At the time of his firing, Matt Lauer was married to Dutch-born former Victoria’s Secret supermodel, Annette Roque. The couple has three children together. They are Jack, 21, Romy, 19, and Thrijs, 16. However, he is in a “transitional time” with the two older children.
The source shared that he is a “semi-empty nester, not employed.”
