‘9-1-1’ Season 8 Premiere Date, Cast, And Updates
While 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending after the upcoming season, the original series will continue on. The difference is that when Disney bought Fox, it decided the original 9-1-1 was worth saving and moved it to ABC. It kept Lone Star on Fox and canceled it with all the other series on that network.
Here is what you need to know about the new upcoming season of 9-1-1.
9-1-1 Season 8 Premiere Date
While the franchise is dropping to just one series, the original will premiere on ABC this fall. The original was also canceled at Fox, just as Lone Star was, but Disney did this so it could move the eighth season to ABC to continue. The requisition happened just eight days after it aired its 100th episode in May.
Season 8 is set to premiere on ABC on Thursday, September 26, at 8 p.m. ET. It will be followed by a new series called Doctor Odyssey at 9 p.m. and Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 at 10 p.m. This will be the new Thursday night lineup on ABC.
Season 7 only had 10 episodes, but the eighth season will increase that. Instead of the typical 20+ episodes in regular shows, the seventh season will have 18 episodes, which should offer lots of good stories for fans of the series. The new episodes will also drop on Hulu the very next day.
The existing 9-1-1 cast members appear to be returning for Season 8. This includes:
- Angela Bassett as Athena Grant
- Peter Krause as Bobby Nash
- Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley
- Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz
- Kenneth Choi as Chimney Han
- Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson
- Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley.
What Will Happen In 9-1-1 Season 8?
A lot happened in the seventh season of the show. Buck Buckley came out as bisexual, and Maddie got married to Chimney. Han and Karen lost their foster license. Bobby and Athena lost their house in a fire. Eddie had to say goodbye to his son as well.

“I want to have some resolution; I want to show that Eddie could be a good person, but that doesn’t offer great TV,” Guzman said in an interview (via Us Weekly). “I want to show some relatability in Eddie.”
While the actual plots from the new season are being kept quiet, most of the episodes will see the first responders dealing with an assortment of emergencies. At the same time, expect plenty of drama with the cast members as they go on with their lives outside of their jobs.
