In a statement with Good Morning America, Spelling said that, “My whole life, I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe in my power.”

“I really attribute me finding myself and turning on my power to my friend Shannen [Doherty], who unfortunately we all just lost recently.”

“[Shannen] is the one this past year that was like, ‘It’s time. You gotta turn your power on. Show your power.'”

Tragically, this past July saw Doherty pass away at the age of 53, after years of battling cancer.

Spelling previously discussed the last time she spoke with her former co-star on her podcast, 90210MG.

As she discussed with co-star Jennie Garth, “I’ve had a lot of death in my life, and I don’t believe in regrets.”

“But I have a lot of regrets that I didn’t have that time to have a second chance to get past stuff from the past and look at all the good things and really talk it out and have that last conversation.”

Doherty and Spelling famously both worked together on Beverly Hills, 90210. In addition to this, Doherty was known for other film and television roles, such as playing the good witch Prue Halliwell in Charmed.

At the time of her passing, many of Doherty’s former co-stars shared their condolences. According to TV Line, for example, Jason Priestley issued the following statement:

“Shocked and saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Shannen. She was a force of nature and I will miss her. Sending love and light to her family in this dark time.”

Doherty herself had also notably appeared on Dancing With the Stars, competing in the show’s tenth season. While paired with partner Mark Ballas, she was the first eliminated contestant.

Spelling joining the competition series actually makes her the fifth Beverly Hills, 90210 star to appear. In addition to Doherty, Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, and Brian Austin Green each competed throughout the series’ run.

Ziering and Garth both came out in fourth during their respective seasons, 4 and 5. Green competed in the 30th season and was eliminated third. Green was also notably paired with his real-life partner, Sharna Burgess.

Spelling also noted she received words of encouragement from Green. As she said in a statement, “He was like, ‘You can do this. Believe in yourself.'”
