General Hospital fans have eagerly awaited the return of Bryan Craig to the daytime soap opera. He will be reprising his role of Morgan Corinthos and reunited with his on-screen dad Sonny (played by Maurice Benard). Bryan recently opened up about his return to Port Charles and what it was like to “become Morgan” again. Here is what he revealed.

Bryan Craig Had To Be Convinced To Return To GH

Bryan Craig won two Daytime Emmys for his portrayal of Morgan Corinthos on General Hospital between 2013 and 2016. However, it took him some convincing to return to the daytime soap. The main bonus for Bryan was being able to get back together with his fictional dad, Maurice Benard.

The soap actor spoke about his return with Soap Opera Digest. He said that either the casting director Mark Teschner or the executive producer Frank Valentini reached out to his agents.

They asked him, “‘Would you be interested in coming back for a special episode?’” Bryan asked who he’d be acting alongside and what the episode would be about. When he heard it involved Maurice, he said, “Say less! Yeah, I’m down.”

He continued, saying that it was a “nice compliment” that General Hospital still has him on their radar. “I’m surprised that they haven’t recast the role in such a long time,” he told Soap Opera Digest. “I’m very grateful because I love working with Maurice and I love what we did towards the end of that run. It was so fun to be asked back and to be able to come back to further that storyline a little bit years later. I feel very privileged.”

Morgan’s return will air on GH this week. It will be the first time viewers see the character since he was killed by a car bomb meant for his dad. He also came back in 2018 to play a figment of Ava’s imagination, but viewers didn’t get to see much of him.

The General Hospital Star Is Thankful For His Experience

For Bryan, returning to the set of General Hospital “was weird.” He said it felt like he was stepping back in time. “Nothing over there at the studio has really changed,” he said. “I mean, some stuff has changed a little bit, but it was the craziest thing, going on the set because none of my former co-stars had changed at all!”

He continued, “They didn’t age! It’s like GH is a time capsule or something. Seriously, it was really weird. If anything, everybody looked even better! But it was strange just to see the machine [of production] running the same way it was running 10 years ago, not a beat skipped.”

Of course, Bryan hasn’t been completely out of touch with his costars. He and his on-screen dad Maurice Benard have kept in touch over the years. They also connected before he returned to the show. He asked Maurice to give him the “low down” on the storyline. Both men were thrilled to be reunited on the show again.

When it comes to how it feels to be back on set, Bryan Craig said he can’t believe it has been 11 years since he was first cast in the role. “I’m a totally different person,” he said. “I mean, I wasn’t a teenager, but I was young — I was 21 or 22. I’ve grown a lot as a person and as an actor since then.”

In many ways, Bryan said his role as Morgan Corinthos helped him become a better actor. He gained a lot of experience on the soap opera, especially in the bipolar storyline between him and Sonny (Maurice). “I can still break [scripts] down in a very quick and efficient way, and it’s all because of General Hospital. I’m very grateful for the experience,” he shared.

For now, Bryan is keeping the details about Morgan and Sonny’s interaction a secret, but fans will be able to see how it plays out this week.

General Hospital airs on weekdays on ABC.
