‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Enraged After Ken Jennings ‘Cheated’
Jeopardy! fans are frequently upset with host Ken Jennings. Since he took the reins after Alex Trebek’s death, there have been several moments throughout the game show where people questioned why he was put in the position to begin with. A recent episode has Jeopardy! viewers up in arms, claiming that Ken cheated a contestant out of a win. Continue reading to see why they think that.
Fans Think Ken Jennings Made A Bad Call
A recent mishap on Jeopardy! has fans raging at Ken Jennings. A contestant missed a clue by one letter and many viewers think the host should have taken the answer.
During a Double Jeopardy! round last Wednesday, returning champ Kelly Proulx buzzed in to answer. The clue read, “A Yosemite fall with a wispy ribbon of water that flutters in the air like a diaphanous cloth bears the name of this marital wear.” It was worth $2,000, which would give her an advantage over her competitors.
Kelly responded, “What is Bridalveil Falls?” Ultimately, Ken Jennings and the judges rejected Kelly’s answer because she made it plural.
“No, I’m sorry,” Ken Jennings told Kelly. “It’s actually Bridalveil Fall, so we couldn’t take that. It is, ‘What is a Bridalveil?’”
After the episode aired, viewers took to social media to sound off about Kelly being cheated out of a win. Of course, they placed the blame on Ken.
“Now this ain’t right! She obviously knew the answer but…persnickety’s the word!” one viewer complained on X. “Make it make sense,” another person wrote.
Another person said they felt like Kelly was “screwed” out of her win. They continued, calling the move by Ken and the judges “BULLSH*T” and a “Ripoff.” The person even went as far as to say that former Jeopardy! legend Alex Trebek “would never stand for that.”
Do Small Details Matter In Jeopardy! Answers?
One fan took to social media and threatened to fight the judges, while others pointed out a similar mistake in an answer that was accepted earlier in the week. A contestant named Matt Brooks responded to a clue with the correct answer “larynx” but he pronounced it as “lare-uh-nix.”
“You should, definitely, invite her back! After all, larynx was mispronounced & you accepted that!” one viewer pointed out. “Shame!! Head shaker all around!”
It seems like Jeopardy! viewers have a reason to be mad. According to the show’s official rules on their website, Final Jeopardy! is when the small details matter the most. Since this was not in the final round, there could have been some leeway in her answer. However, Ken Jennings and the judges didn’t see it that way.
Jeopardy! airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for details.

Jeopardy needs to review how the waterfall is cited by the park service and other sources. I have not found a source that references the waterfall as Bridal Veil Fall. The park sign says “Bridal Veil Falls Scenic Area.
Ambiguous at best.
