One Direction Stars Feuding With ‘X Factor’ Judge Simon Cowell
Simon Cowell is the man who helped discover One Direction. Each member of the former band auditioned for X Factor. While Simon didn’t accept them individually, he did put them together as One Direction, and they went on to become the most successful act in the show’s history. However, it seems that the band and Simon are no longer on good terms.
Here is what you need to know about the apparent One Direction and Simon Cowell feud.
Simon Cowell Calls Out His Biggest Regret With One Direction
In 2010, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson auditioned as solo artists for X Factor. They didn’t make it in the “Boys” category (they were all teens). However, Simon helped put them together as a five-person boy band, which qualified them for “Groups.”
Both Nicole Scherzinger (a guest judge) and Simon Cowell claimed to have come up with the idea. Whoever was responsible deserves a lot of credit. While One Direction didn’t win that season of X-Factor, they released five studio albums, sold over 70 million albums worldwide, and won seven AMA’s.
However, there seems to be bad blood between Simon and the band.
In a recent interview with Steven Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast, Simon mentioned his biggest regret about One Direction. His biggest regret was giving the band ownership of the name. “When you give an artist the name, it’s not yours and that’s my only regret,” Simon said on the podcast.
“So if you’re listening, I’ll buy it back from you. But that’s the only thing I do regret,” Simon said.
One Direction Not On Good Terms With Simon Cowell
Simon said his comments concerned the fact that one band member could force all the others to stop touring. He doesn’t like that power being in one person’s hands, and he said if he owned the name, the others wouldn’t be held down in that case. However, Simon Cowell’s comments might not have gone over well with all the One Direction members.
Simon said that he had not gotten along with all the members, although he said that Harry, Niall, and Louis were “incredibly loyal to him.” However, Liam has spoken out about being overworked when he was with One Direction after leaving the band and signing with Republic Records.
However, while Simon said that Niall and Louis were always “loyal” to him, they were two of the band members who seemingly cut ties with Simon after the podcast interview. Both singers unfollowed Simon on Instagram. Since breaking up, One Direction still makes money off their name and has earned £2.9 million as a group entity.
