‘Jeopardy!’ Ken Jennings Stumps Players & Reveals Sweet Tribute

Ken Jennings, Jeopardy!

Currently, the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions is heating up. While there is a three-way tie, the competition is getting spicy! Ken Jennings is hosting and throwing tough categories at the champions. However, the host was also able to pull out a sweet tribute from one of the participants, warming all the viewers’ hearts.

Ken Jennings Throws A Curveball

In the latest Jeopardy! episode, Troy Meyer, Yogesh Raut, and Ben Chan were facing off in the tournament’s third finals game. Then Yogesh stole the show with a much-needed first win, leaving the three competitors with tying victories. But Troy is sure that they will catch some flack for one question that completely stumped them all. Ben, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin; Yogesh, a social and personality psychologist from Vancouver, Washington, and Troy, a music executive from Tampa, Florida, all watched one question slip through their fingers. When Ken Jennings lobbed a doozie of a category the champions were baffled. But they knew the aftermath of the category was going to get them ragged on by worldwide Swifties.

Ken Jennings Stumps The Trivia Giants

For this group, the category “Songs of Youth” proved to be more tricky than expected. Although the participants are trivia giants, they were no match for the pop icon Taylor Swift. Ken Jennings reads the clue, “Inspired by her bestie, Tay Tay sang when ‘somebody tells you they love you’ at this title age ‘you’re gonna believe them.'” Unfortunately, this was the Jeopardy! episode’s only triple-stumper. Troy and Yogesh incorrectly guessed “seventeen” and “twenty-two,” but Ben bowed out. However, the correct answer was revealed as “fifteen.” Jokingly, Troy knew, “We’re gonna get killed for that.” After the show, Ben wrote on Reddit, “My only regret was not saying, ‘I’m more of a Rihanna guy’ on the Taylor Swift triple stumper.”

Sweet Tribute

During the interviews, Ken Jennings pulls out a beautiful tribute from one of the competitors. When Troy Meyer discusses his inspiration, social media and Jeopardy! viewers melted. Sadly, Troy’s mom, Cheryl, passed away on his original appearance on the show in January 2023. Ken says, “Tell us about the sweater; that is a choice,” referring to his black and white cardigan.

“Thanks for the compliment,” Troy chuckles. “So, my late mother worked at Saks Fifth Avenue in Cleveland for a long time. And, they probably wouldn’t want me to talk about this on TV, [but] one thing the salespeople would do is hide stuff in their drawers until it went on sale.” Then explains to Ken Jennings, “And so my mom hid this for six months for me. My mom hooked me up with a lot of stuff throughout the years. I wear this sweater in tribute to her today.”

But the sentimental player also gave a sweet tribute to someone else who greatly influenced him. In like fashion, Troy offers a huge “thank you” to his former teacher, Mrs. Scuderi. He is grateful for her encouragement and telling him to keep learning. On X one Jeopardy! fan said, “That heartfelt thank you from Troy was touching.” Then another wrote, “Oh Troy! All teachers are so grateful for that beautiful tribute.”
