Does TLC Pay Tammy Slaton & Amy Halterman Fairly?
Is TLC fairly compensating the 1000-Lb Sisters stars for their work?
That’s a question many viewers are wondering online as the season continues. Tammy Slaton seems to be in the best era of her life, but Amy Halterman is clearly struggling. This season’s storylines have many viewers believing that TLC might be exploiting the reality stars.
Of course, TLC does compensate Tammy, Amy, and the rest of their family for their time on the show. But are they receiving a fair wage?

Does TLC pay Tammy Slaton & Amy Halterman their fair share?
Unless Tammy Slaton and Amy Halterman ever publicly disclose how much they make, the public will probably never know the truth. But in the meantime, fans still speculate. And many think TLC might be cutting the women short.
“I’m not sure if I’m the only one but it appears to me that the girls are getting shorted on their contract. They have the whole family on the show and there seems to be no obvious financial change for anyone,” a Redditor offered their opinion online. “Same houses, cars, clothes. Most importantly the girls still haven’t gotten their teeth worked on. I saw Tammy say in a tik tok that she couldn’t afford it. How!? That should have been something attainable by season 2. Idk I feel bad for them hopefully someone intervenes soon bc this doesn’t seem right.”
Other 1000-Lb Sisters fans seemed to have mixed opinions here. One Redditor shared a few articles speculating on Tammy and Amy’s net worth. But someone else brought up a very interesting point: the stars are also very family-focused and may be using the money to support the extended family.
“I’m also speculating here but I imagine they’re also helping other members of the extended family,” another Reddit user replied. “That’s a deep and wide bench of poverty and they have a lot of nieces and nephews, aunts, etc. Amy also bought that house and has a mortgage, etc. I’m also guessing they’re not financially savvy.”
Fans suspect the 1000-Lb Sisters stars also have their share of debt
Tammy Slaton, Amy Halterman, and the rest of their family members were once everyday people before TLC gave them a platform. As a result, they still likely have a significant amount of debt. Onscreen, the family members have discussed their impoverished background.
On top of that, the family has also dealt with numerous medical costs. And it’s not clear how much TLC paid for.
“Tammy spent how many months in a rehab center? All of this adds up and insurance only covers so much,” another Reddit user pointed out. “If they don’t have insurance or didn’t have insurance when things started going south, then all of that was even more expensive. Meaning that if they didn’t have consumer debt, they likely had/have medical debt..”

This is “work”? Having a bunch of underpaid camera men running around with this disgusting family constitutes
“work”????? Neither of these two women do actual WORK. Tammy at least needs to go get an actual JOB – something
she has never done in her life. Should be quite a shock to this woman.
This is SUCH an ignorant comment. How would this “redditor” know anything ABOUT their
contracts? HOW? No obvious change? Really? Get a life, ‘redditor.
